🚨 Reston, Virginia Officer-Involved Shooting – BWC Release On September 16, 2024, Fairfax County Police Officer Peter Liu responded to a welfare check at an apartment in Reston. Authorities say 33-year-old Sydney Wilson attacked the officer with a knife. Liu attempted to retreat and issue verbal commands before firing five shots. Wilson later died at the hospital. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The bodycam footage was released on October 14, 2024.

In a Louisville courtroom, years before his trial, Brice Rhodes sat smiling at the people watching him. The judge asked why he was smiling. Rhodes said because he could, and that smiling isn't a crime. Then he told the judge: "I'll do what I want to do, let's get that understood." He was accused of killing three people. Two of them were teenage brothers. In May 2016, Christopher Jones, 40, a father of two, was shot dead in Louisville. Prosecutors said Rhodes mistook him for another man who had a bounty on his head. Two brothers, Maurice Gordon, 16, and Larry Ordway, 14, had been in the car that night. Then Rhodes heard the boys were telling family what they saw. On May 22, 2016, he brought them to his home. A witness testified Rhodes held a vote on whether they should die. Both brothers were killed and their bodies were burned behind an abandoned house. The case dragged on for seven years. Rhodes went through attorney after attorney, refusing to work with some and threatening others. He spat on one and had to wear a mask in court. He was charged with assaulting a jail nurse, threatening a judge and trying to escape. He accused the judge of favoring the prosecution, of being racist and of being a secret Klan member. He said police detectives lied. In the video below, he smiles at the spectators while the brothers' family sits in the same room. Their grandmother had already told reporters his behavior in court was tearing her apart. His lawyers said he was mentally ill. A judge ruled he could not face the death penalty, but was competent to stand trial. Before it started, he was warned he could be shocked by a device if he disrupted it. In December 2023 a jury convicted him on every count. It took them less than an hour to recommend life without parole. In March 2024 the judge made it official and called it by far one of the most tragic cases she had ever been part of. In 2026 the Kentucky Supreme Court upheld it. He said he'd do what he wanted. He will do it in a cell for the rest of his life. Was that smile a sick man who didn't understand where he was, or a killer who knew exactly how much it hurt the family watching?

At 2:31 in the morning on June 6, 1996, a 911 dispatcher in Rowlett, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, picked up a call from a frantic young mother. Her name was Darlie Routier. She was 26. She said someone had broken into her house and stabbed her two little boys. Devon was 6. Damon was 5. They'd fallen asleep downstairs in the family room watching TV with their mom. Her husband Darin and their baby son Drake were asleep upstairs. When police arrived, both boys had been stabbed multiple times. Devon was already dead. Damon died minutes later. Darlie had a slash across her throat and cuts on her arm. Her story never changed. She said she woke up on the couch to find a man in the house. She chased him through the kitchen and into the garage, where he escaped. A window screen in the garage had been cut. Investigators didn't believe her. They said the screen had been cut with a knife from the Routiers' own kitchen. They said there was no blood trail leading out of the garage. Jewelry and valuables were sitting in plain sight, untouched. Her own wounds, they said, were serious but not life threatening, the kind a person could inflict on herself. On the 911 call, Darlie mentioned picking up a knife and wondered out loud if they could still get prints. To police, that sounded like someone thinking about evidence instead of her dying children. Then came the video. Eight days after the murders, on what would have been Devon's seventh birthday, the family held a graveside party. A local TV crew filmed Darlie smiling, laughing, and spraying Silly String over her sons' graves. That clip played over and over on the news. Four days later, she was arrested. In February 1997, a jury convicted her of capital murder for Damon's death and sentenced her to death. She was never tried for Devon's. Her supporters have spent nearly 30 years saying the jury got it wrong. They point to a bloody fingerprint on a coffee table that investigators couldn't match to anyone in the family. A bloody sock found down the alley behind the house, about 75 yards away, with the boys' blood on it. They argue there was no way she could have killed both boys, staged the scene, planted the sock, and cut herself in the short time before that 911 call. Her ex-husband still believes she's innocent. Prosecutors fire back. They say a later fingerprint expert couldn't rule out Darlie's own finger as the source of that print. And they say they tested about 100 DNA samples from the scene, and every single one came back to Darlie or her boys. Her conviction was upheld on appeal in 2003. Since then, judges have ordered round after round of new DNA testing as technology improves. As of 2026, the results of some of that testing are still pending. She has no execution date. She's been on death row for almost 30 years. Darlie Routier still says a stranger killed her sons. A jury looked at that house and saw a staged crime scene. Was it?

It started with diapers. A Mississippi police sergeant chased two women out of a Walmart because employees said they had taken diapers and baby clothes without paying. Within 13 seconds, he had his gun pointed at their car. He fired into the passenger side, where a 1-year-old boy was sitting on his mother's lap. The boy, Kohen Wiley, died. Four months later, Mississippi's attorney general reviewed the case and ruled the shooting "justified." In October the state released the sergeant's own body camera. In the video below, Sgt. Hunter Foster runs out of the Walmart with his gun drawn and heads straight for a silver car in the parking lot. He reaches the car and points his gun at it from a few feet away. Another officer is beside him. "Stop! Stop!" he yells. Shots follow. The car pulls away. He gets on the radio: "Shots fired at Walmart." A second officer's body camera shows guns drawn on the same car. The store's outdoor camera shows the two women running out to it just before. It happened on June 14, 2026. The officers had been inside the store on an unrelated call when employees reported the women. Kohen's mother, Vellesiya Wiley, says she held him up so the officers could see him. Investigators say the driver, Latoya Ferrell, drove toward the officers. She was seriously injured. Afterward, an officer was recorded saying: "Nobody knew the baby was there." The governor, who said he had not watched the video, called it "very clear" that the driver tried to run over the officer. Nobody has been charged, neither Foster nor the two women. Foster has since resigned. Kohen would have turned 2 last weekend. The family's attorney, Ben Crump, called firing into a car in a busy parking lot "reckless" and wants the Justice Department to investigate. In 2017 she pleaded guilty to 8 murders and 6 other attacks on people in her care. She had been telling people for years. An ex-girlfriend. A student nurse. A lawyer. A recovery sponsor. None of them went to the police. So what stopped her? Not the pastor. She confessed at his kitchen table, and he and his wife prayed with her. They told her that if she did it again, "we will have to turn you in to the police." Months later, in March 2014, she overdosed Maureen Pickering. Days after that, the nursing home fired her over a medication error. Another nursing home hired her, and another resident died. In September 2016 she was assigned to give insulin to diabetic children at a school. She quit, saying she feared she could not stop herself from hurting them. Then she checked into a psychiatric hospital and started talking. The judge said: "Without her confessions, I am convinced these offences would never have been brought to justice." He gave her life. "I want to call them so bad, but it's just that fear of being found by those ugly, ugly people." If she called, she'd say: "Hey, I just want to let you know I'm alive. I'm okay. I don't want to talk about it. I love you." She hasn't made the call. She didn't touch a drug until 23. After that, almost every one was slipped to her by someone else. After Jasmine was found, he crossed into Canada by boat from Point Roberts, Washington. Days later he was found hanged in a motel in Hope, British Columbia.
