Finally reading Larry McMurtry’s LONESOME DOVE, which I’ve started several times over the years and abandoned—wasn’t in the right mood for it, I guess. This time, I’ve really connected with the novel and am enjoying it mightily.

A friend has left this place after being subjected to vile racist abuse. I don't know how to fight this any more. There seem to be no consequences.

This man is a contributor - a man who has given to this country. Why on earth would we want to exclude him. One of the repeated slurs is that he doesn't eat pork. Well, neither do I. Does that make me not English?

I am loving all the tributes to Dolly. 💔☀️

I was a silly 18yo security guard at the Tacoma Dome in '85 and I was guarding Dolly & Kenny's dressing room when a fan told me he was sick and his dying wish was to meet Dolly. I knocked on their dressing room door to pass his msg to her assistant who rolled her eyes 1/2

This fact and the thread beneath. Death by motor vehicle is sudden and incredibly traumatic for families, and yet we don’t prioritise it. Those speeding cars missing a collision by an inch terrify me.

You know all the gang killings we're constantly appalled by; and the domestic murders and terrorist attacks and the random mental health killings?! Add them ALL together and TIMES BY THREE - we *STILL* don't have a victim count as high as for road death. theguardian.com/law/2026/aug…

Victims of road crime feel ‘forgotten by system’, official review finds

Many of those affected in England and Wales think offences are not treated with the seriousness they deserve, says commissioner

I definitely felt like this.

Every police officer, every shift signs off on a commitment vto the public that includes dying. When we die in the course of duty, at the hands of others, we expect the punishment to fit the crime and for it to be severe and exemplary. That is the deal police officers expect.

Do you have any idea how shit at your job you have to be to have 55 European countries actually agree on something 😂

BREAKING: UEFA sources tell @talkSPORT all 55 Member Associations have decided to boycott the men's and women's World Cups in protest at Gianni Infantino's Fifa Forward Enterprise plans. UEFA members agreed on an emergency call that began around 2pm today that they will not support any FIFA-run tournament. 🎩 @martynziegler, who first broke the story.

Boutique in Nîmes’ (2001) I came across this square on a scorching August afternoon. While everyone was taking a sensible siesta, I was exploring, savouring the isolation of the streets usually crowded with tourists. Only the pigeons seemed to be out and about! @ahistoryinart

Because that would be contempt of court and it would potentially deny justice to the woman you claim is ‘beloved’ by you and yours. You know EXACTLY how this works and why, @ZiaYusufUK. To pretend otherwise for clicks and political point scoring is despicable.

Our beloved Ann was hit on the head 21 times with a hammer by her alleged killer. Why do we still know so little about him? Why do we still know so little about his politics? We all know why.
