I wanted to comment on the situation in North Macedonia for days now, but the emotions had me at a loss for words. Just now I remembered a song my grandmom used to sing, which for me has always symbolized Macedonian history, and now also represents my fears for its future 1/5
Those memories include them discussing how during the Bulgarian occupation they had to keep their doors and windows closed and sing their songs together in secrecy, as a hidden form of revolt. Discussing this and other forms of past oppression during the Bulgarian occupation, 4/5
