There is so much great stuff in this post that goes beyond #thinkingclassroom. And I love you use of “centre of gravity”. What a great metaphor.

So happy that this activity is being used in Nova Scotia schools. All these years later, Dianne’s knowledge is still inspiring youth. @_DaveWagner
You can try this too! Just check out this @Desmos activity: Dianne's Quill Boxes! teacher.desmos.com/activityb…

Q1: Introduce yourself plus what & where you teach.
+ How has the way in which you have students take notes changed over time? What happened that prompted the change?

The interactive multiplication grids on Polypad can help you visualise multiplying integers, decimal numbers or fractions. You can even multiply numbers in bases other than 10! polypad.org/LqfRpJ8EnNZP9A

Mmm… perfect rectangle month. This year February is an exact rectangle because it starts on a Monday and it’s not a leap year.
But it’s not as rare as I see people claiming (every 200 years apparently‽), it’s about every 10 years. The previous was 2010 and the next is 2027.

Well done, Herbie. Pebbles is such a lovely challenge but we've never seen that approach before! We've uploaded some examples of other children's work and teacher notes with the original problem here nrich.maths.org/48 @Facultymaths @CamEdFac
This week in Maths, Year 4 have been learning about area.
Today I set them a couple of really tough challenges to investigate area further.
Check out Herbie using his Lego to problem solve!
This particular challenge was based on the @nrichmaths pebbles problem.

Love that I can make games for my online middle school methods class on Polypad. Designed this game for today. Such fun and great opportunities for reasoning and estimating in upper elementary. Polypad – 3-Digit Targets mathigon.org/polypad/iRrbxnO… via @MathigonOrg

These 5 Strands of Mathematical Proficiency are a lot harder to quantify than the score a kid gets on a state assessment, but they are so much more meaningful. I’m talking about them in this week’s podcast. Take a listen over at buildmathminds.com/80

First day of dividing decimals for this group today. The T & I chose this task for the first time and we are both adding it to our files. We swapped product for quotient & off we went! nrich.maths.org/5632 #ThinkingClassroom #mpscpssd
