A family stopped me in the corridor as I was leaving
Asked to speak to me for a minute…
Asked me if I was racially stereotyping and undervaluing their mother
I’ve never been asked THAT question before…

Today I reviewed the proof of a paper about ICU diaries and delirium, written by T. Deffner, German ICU psychologist & myself, incl how to write for/to delirious pts and why diaries can help in coping with delirium.
Will be published in Crit Care Nurs Clin N Am soon.
Stay tuned!

Just did a Sim Game session with staff, two teams thrash it out for the quickest to get equipment/drugs and set up for procedures - so much fun #simwars #MedEd #simed @maheshramanan @KatrinaCook_ @rb_bne @Jessica65193611

Such a perfect expression from @LizCrowe2 There is no framework for managing grief, you just have to sit in the rubble with them. Just be there. #smacc

No journal article or medical textbook or statistic will make a family member's suicide hurt less. But there's an honest relief in embracing grief as a person, not a physician.

Hearing ICU staff talk kindly to my husband when he was sedated/ventilated helped me feel that he was safe and cared for in every way, not just clinical. It was easier to leave him - carers notice the kindness too. And for the record - he remembered lots of what was said. Lots. – at Melbourne, Victoria
