As a reminder, the Mississippi Legislature unanimously voted in 2022 that: "The State of Mississippi applauds the United States government's decision to ban all energy imports from Russia."

An apt day to remember that Dolly Parton once recorded a cover of Stairway to Heaven - and, in defiance of every moral law in the universe, she absolutely owned it.

While there is always more work to do, today is a day to celebrate our students’ impressive academic achievement & also to thank our incredible teachers who have gone above & beyond to deliver these results despite numerous headwinds. Your tireless commitment to our young people has made all the difference, & our state is better off for it.

In other words, if every state looked the same socioeconomically and demographically, Mississippi would rank at the very top in 3 of the 4 tested areas and 4th in the other.

Most impressively of all, @urbaninstitute released a report showing that the demographically adjusted results would place Mississippi students in FIRST PLACE nationally in 4th grade reading, 4th grade math, & 8th grade reading, as well as 4th nationally in 8th grade math.

As impressive as those results are, the results under the hood are even more staggering: 📚 Highest gains in the nation in 4th grade reading & math from 2013-2024 📚 Hispanic students rank 1st in the nation among their peers in 4th grade reading and 2nd in 4th grade math 📚 African American students rank 3rd among their peers in both 4th grade reading & math.

According to Rule 40 and Rule 41 of the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, the 5th Circuit Panel's opinion will not take effect until at least November 18th, meaning this will not affect the November 5th General Election. My team and I will continue to digest the opinion and explore all available legal options.

Public education in Mississippi continues to excel! Congratulations to Mississippi’s educators, students and families on these results!
Today, MDE released accountability grades for the 2023-24 school year, which show 85.7% of schools and 93.9% of districts earned a grade of C or higher. The largest-ever share of Mississippi districts are now rated A, B or C. Get details at bit.ly/3B8PUs1 #MsEdu

It is absurd that MAE has had to say this. We ALSO will reiterate that we have NOT and WILL NOT advocate for vouchers. Children lose when politics is based on easy lies instead of hard truths.
ON VOUCHERS MAE has NOT and will NOT advocate for vouchers. We have been clear on that position, and are reiterating our call for an education funding conference committee. When folks work together on the common mission to fully fund our schools, the final product will

Thank you, @MSEducators for recognizing the importance of the two chambers going to conference so we can continue to engage in good faith negotiations about funding formula reform. Both chambers are committed to huge funding increases. Let’s not miss out on an opportunity to do good for Mississippi public schools. #msleg

Thank you, @tatereeves, for your public support of the INSPIRE Act! The Mississippi House of Representatives has put forward a student-centered funding formula that prioritizes students over systems. Thank you to @robroberson43, @KentMcCarty, and @JansenOwen for their continued work to improve education in Mississippi. With the passage of the INSPIRE Act, the House is committed to investing more money into our K-12 education system than ever before. I remain hopeful that the Senate will support a truly equitable and innovative method to approach education funding in Mississippi. #MSMiracle #FundStudentsNotSystems
Mississippi has a lot to be proud of when it comes to education. The Mississippi Miracle, an all-time high graduation rate that’s better than the national average, a top five state for high-quality pre-K – just to name a few.   There are a lot of reasons why Mississippi students are performing at historic levels. This includes loving parents, dedicated teachers, continuously upholding standards, conservative legislative reforms, and hardworking Mississippi students. It also includes an unwavering commitment to focusing on what’s best for kids — regardless of what the bureaucracy prefers to focus on.   To continue to see improved results and to maximize our children’s potential, we must continue being strategic and targeted in our investments in education. We must fund students, not systems. And we must keep tax dollars where they are most impactful — in the classroom. That means focusing on students and teachers — not administrators and the status quo.   I’m glad to see that the Mississippi House passed the INSPIRE Act. The House obviously recognizes and has made a strong statement that, if we want to continue our already impressive progress, the next step is to have a funding model that funds each individual kid — focusing on that individual kid. Not on the district office, not on the school or even on the administrators….but on the kids! The INSPIRE funding model will help fulfill the actual needs of Mississippi students. It will help students by directing additional funding based on their unique situation. For example, this includes students who are low-income, enrolled in career and technical education, gifted, or taking part in special education.   Thanks to those House members who are working tirelessly to find innovative solutions to develop a new funding model that focuses on what’s best for kids. I hope the Senate will follow suit and tell the coalition of the status quo they won’t win every time. Let’s fund students — not systems —Mississippi!!

I’m heartbroken for Alabama families in IVF treatments & fear what this means going forward. As a woman who struggled with infertility for years, I know there is nothing more pro-life than trying to conceive a child. We’ve sadly turned this issue inside out & upside down.
