This is what all #SNES PAL games look like when on one pile
I honestly don't know what's the fuss about AI art. I don't like it personally for the better part. I professionally worked in capacity where we drew keyframes by hand and then did our own in-betweening or had it outsourced to slaves. I understand the struggle of skilled hard labour. I also understand how annoying it is when someone with zero skills shows up with something "they made" which equals what you did skill-wise or it's even better and then suddenly they command the same weight of voice.. it's not pretty and it's legit gatekeeping. However, at the end of the day.. does it even matter? In 2D animation we saw skeletal "slop" made with AE, Harmony, Spine.. but whatever.
Most of the stuff, no matter the skill and labour involved is slop. We can't all be geniuses and artisans. Not everything we do is MoMa-worthy. AI is trained on other people stuff and used for profit? Negative ethics for sure. Guess what, so are we (handmade artists). Alas we are not corpos, granted. Is it going to go away now that we said it? Nope. We have to deal with it. The only hope we can have is that as with all tools in the history of art - it's not tools that will decide on the meritum of it. It's what you make with it. Copies never stood a test of time and that will not change with AI. Be original, be creative, put deep thought and labour in it even if it's endless prompting and deliver your cohesive vision. This part is hard even with AI. AI isn't going away. Let's deal with it for better or worse.
The only major thing we will have to deal with right now is the incoming tsunami of 'slop' against which valid signals have to be weeded out. In commercial sense, like games, this will need also some shifts in the platform and market dynamics. Which ones? I know as much as anyone - who knows, but it will have to happen.
Enjoy the ride, witness the magical technological breakthroughs and don't stress out too much. Art.. finds a way.
every weekend a bit closer to the goal.. ONLY 923642736487243746 weekends to go! and I haven't even touched art properly yet ffs #IndieGameDev #indiegames
I present you an AI song about AI code, of course.
"The Commit Was A Joke"
Enjoy! #AICoding
A renderer and all the game engines in the world are useless if I don't have a good (level) authoring tool. The more things engine and renderer do that DCC apps don't, the more important it is. In-fact I'd rather have that part done well than renderer #indiedev
Gamedev Jesus (Miyamoto) has spoken on AI (art) in games, y'all. Wise words. If he's ok with it.. basically he says slop is always slop and stands no test of time, no matter the tool.

Hear me out - now that we have computers of the future, has anyone tried running ye olde software we worked with and thought, at the time, I wish I had faster computer(s)? Faster computers meant faster iterations of trying things out in art, which is always good.
Well, don't know even what to say. Eulogy for ye ole good times is writing itself over the past year or few. theverge.com/games/1015647/e…
How many of you were around 3D work 25 years ago? This was a hit back then, still is but it used to too. jackals-forge.com/abom.html With GenAI these days I don't have to explain why I remembered this.
Hardest thing in programming? Still naming shit. 8th try at a realtime renderer is called - TNO, "The New One" 😅
It's a me, Path (Tracing) Mario! Ready for a game of golf. Well, not really since it's hackity hack all through and performance is like 20fps on 4090. But, it kind of works, thanks to libsm64 making this extra fun to work on a renderer! RT if you like!
How it started vs how it's going - 18 months of progress. Technically there were 6 months between a firefly-ridden cornell box and the first image as well.
this led to nowhere. I'll wait for AGI to try again, until then Human Brain, unfortunately.
