So @FightOpinion and I struggled to make sense of TKO's situation currently -- their backing of Trump led to the Iran War which is bankrupting their money marks in Saudi and the UAE. We also talk for 20 minutes about the death of Dagestani style wrestle-f*cking for those who think we can't talk aboutfights. Link in replies.

The funniest thing about DC's commentary is that he gets really upset when people say he does no prep, but not so upset that he'll familiarize himself with who the fighters on the card are.

Garland is a great example of how liberal fealty to “norms” as such can be corrosive and dangerous. So wedded was he to the norm of presidents not being prosecuted that he punted on this crucial case, undermining the rule of law and democracy itself.
Amid the celebrations tonight, let’s spare a curse or two for Merrick Garland. Wrote about this a while ago, but his cowardice — in contrast to the story in Brazil — really does shine through at a moment like this.

I’m speaking directly to the source who leaked this information to Matthew Cole: Your life as you know it is as good as over.
Take it from me, or any of us who spent years in prison because of him (Reality Winner, Terry Albury, the list goes on).
The White House is smart. They know Matthew Cole is sloppy with sources, and they know he is a coward who folds like a wet blanket. Barack Obama had his way with him. And Trump is about to do the same thing. To all Cole’s sources, best of luck when his book releases this week.
The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

Security Alert: U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia (October 25, 2026)
Effective October 23, 2026, the Department of State ordered non-emergency U.S. government employees and U.S. government employee family members to leave Saudi Arabia due to safety risks.
Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions. The hostilities have the potential to escalate rapidly beyond that immediate area.
U.S. government employees working in Saudi Arabia require special authorization from Chief of Mission to use any airport in Saudi Arabia following recent missile and UAV attacks on airports in the Kingdom.
King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh announced a partial reopening as of October 25 for domestic flights and some international flights operated by national carriers. A limited number of flights normally based at RUH are operating out of Qassim-based Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz International Airport (ELQ).
Operations at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah (JED) are operational with some delays and cancellations.
Operations at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam (DMM) are operational with some delays and cancellations.
U.S. citizens should be aware of potential attacks on airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and travel disruptions. Please take extreme caution if you choose to use airports in Saudi Arabia. We recommend checking your flight departure status directly with the airline and with the airport.

The backlash I’ve gotten from consultants for this post is illuminating. It reminds me of the time I got blocked by Ezra Klein, not for voicing any ideological critique, but for pointing out that he platforms his consultant friends who are grifters and are bad at their jobs.
73% of your campaign donations go to consultants and vendors; only 13% goes toward ads. This is 4x the cut consultants made 20 years ago. Important work by @JakeMGrumbach and Adam Bonica on the capture of the Democratic Party by consultants.

Kuwait and Qatar are having a far worse war year than their governments let on, and the IMF has now put a number on it. Kuwait's economy is set to shrink 16.7% this year, Qatar's 15.6%, Bahrain's 11.3%. At one point Qatar's output fell by as much as 86%. Who pays for a hole that size? Contractors waiting on payment, and workers paid out of gas money.
Oman is the only Gulf economy growing, at 4.1%. Its ports sit outside Hormuz, so it caught the trade the others could not move.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE are in between, down 3.3% and 3.9%, and the IMF says they have the buffers to keep spending. Riyadh borrows to do it, and both point to a 9.1% Gulf rebound in 2027, which needs the fighting to stop.
The map of Gulf money now has one open door on the Arabian Sea, and a row of locked warehouses behind the strait.

He’s savvy as fuck geopolitically, especially on the AoR, and has integrity in the bucket load. Follow him on X, Substack, Telegram and YT.
In a media landscape full of recycled talking points and sudden pivots, Alastair Crooke has stayed consistent. For the past three years of intense Axis of Resistance coverage, his analysis has stood out for its clarity, historical grounding, and refusal to chase the daily cycle. He has not put a foot wrong in my opinion.
He's a super smart mover and shaker who knows this terrain like the back of his hand. A former British diplomat with deep East Asia experience, he takes the strategic logic and historical grievances of actors within the Axis of Resistance, including Iran, seriously rather than reducing them to caricature. On his Substack (conflictsforum.substack.com) and at Conflicts Forum, he examines the limits of Western power, regional dynamics, and how resistance movements respond to sustained pressure. This is not cheerleading. It is an attempt to understand events on their own terms.
That approach earns respect even from those who do not share his conclusions. My Papa had little regard for many, but he always had a lot of respect for Alastair and said he was one of a few good men. Readers note the steadiness of his framing and the way he avoids both Western moralism and uncritical boosterism. While many commentators reverse course when events become inconvenient, Crooke’s work shows continuity. He treats the Axis of Resistance as a coherent strategic phenomenon rather than a series of crises narrated from outside.
He appears regularly in long-form YouTube interviews. These conversations give him room to develop arguments that do not fit short formats and reveal the same patience with complexity found in his writing. Following both his latest Substack pieces and these interviews is one of the better ways to track how the region is being interpreted by someone who has watched it closely for decades.
Integrity is easy to claim and hard to demonstrate over time. Crooke has shown it by remaining clear and consistent while the surrounding commentary has shifted repeatedly. For anyone following the Axis of Resistance without constantly recalibrating for the latest approved narrative, his accounts are among the more reliable places to start. Follow the work, watch the interviews, and judge it on its own terms.
