This Halloween is shaping up to be full of more tricks than treats – with candy favorites costing 15% more on average this year.
No matter how working families plan to celebrate, Trump’s ghoulish policies & frighteningly high prices are sure to haunt families' budgets.

If you missed the @SIEPR X @KitchenTblProj Healthcare Forum a few weeks ago, don't worry: @rcobooth wrote up the public option panel in @voxdotcom this morning 👇
The public option got cut from the Affordable Care Act, but an obscure waiver that was included has since been used by 3 states to launch their own public options.
I wrote about these policy experiments and what they could mean for 2028 and beyond:

Food prices have been hot for some time now. No surprise it’s a pain point
Some ideas are obvious but worth repeating (Ditch the recent tariffs on food & farmers!)
Some are novel (Leverage USDA commodity procurement!)

NEW: A majority of Americans are stressed out about affording groceries, think it’s unfair, and have changed how they shop.
New polling data from @GSG:
→63% say groceries are one of the biggest sources of pressure on their household budget
→67% say grocery prices today are unfair.
→78% are buying more store brands.
→72% are using coupons, loyalty programs or store apps.
→67% are cutting back on snacks, treats and other nonessentials.

A team of economists with Dem ties has crafted a health care proposal designed to reduce medical bills.
The central idea: capping the amount of money people pay out of pocket in any month.

The data are from insurers' rate filings. They are not final but are indicative. Last year, a 18% median proposal translated into a final rate increase of 20%.
