There’s something poetic about the last out of Braves vs Phillies in 2023 being traded for the guy that recorded the last out to send them home
Ozzie Albies is the greatest second baseman in the 150-year history of the Braves franchise. You can reasonably argue whether his (outrageously team-friendly) should be extended, but you’d damn well better put the proper respect on his name as you do so.

In 1988 Dolly Parton pulled every 7th and 8th grader in Sevier County into a room and told them to pick a buddy.
She made them sign a contract.. if BOTH graduate, she hands you both $500. One fails, nobody gets paid.
The county dropout rate went from 35% to 6%.
She handed out the checks herself.
In 1989 she offered $500 to every kid in the county who wanted to go to the local college.
When Gatlinburg burned in 2016, she sent 900 families $1,000 a month for six months.
You've probably heard that part.
Here's the part you haven't:
The fund raised more than expected, so she showed up in May and handed every one of those families another $5,000 on top.
Then she quietly put $3 million into the recovery group that handles the years after the news trucks leave.
She built her county an entire hospital.
She played a benefit concert in 2007, Dollywood and the Stampede matched it, and LeConte Medical Center opened in 2010 with a birthing unit and a women's center in it.
In 2022 she started covering 100% of tuition, books, and fees for Dollywood employees.
Full-time, part-time, AND seasonal.
In 1991 she paid for a bald eagle sanctuary because the birds couldn't be released back into the wild, no press release.
And when Hurricane Helene came through here in Western North Carolina, she wrote a personal check for $1 million and her companies matched it.
She didn't owe North Carolina anything, but she helped us anyway.
She started the Imagination Library because her daddy couldn't read or write. Before he passed, he told her it was the most important thing she ever did.
Rest in Peace, Dolly 🇺🇸

Warren Nolan has tracked Strength of Schedule in college baseball for 6 full seasons (2021-2026). Over that span, only 5 teams have cracked the .6000 threshold.
The teams are:
T-1. 2026 Auburn - .6170
T-1. 2024 Florida - .6170
3. 2023 Kentucky - .6090
4. 2024 Ole Miss - .6035
5. 2025 Auburn - .6003
The regular season records of these teams:
- '26 Auburn - 36-18 (17-16 in Q1) (7-2 Q2)
- '24 Florida - 28-26 (13-17 in Q1) (2-6 Q2)
- '23 Kentucky - 36-17 (18-15 in Q1)*** (8-2 in Q2)***
- '24 Ole Miss - 27-28 (11-19 in Q1) (3-4 in Q2)
- '25 Auburn - 38-17 (16-12 in Q1) (4-1 in Q2)
***Worth noting, the RPI did not seem to make a Home/Away distinction in 2023, so Kentucky's adjusted Q1 and Q2 records with current tiered system implemented in 2024 would look like this:
Q1: 9-14
Q2: 11-2
So, tangibly, no one has done this well in their overall record and Q1 & Q2 records in the regular season against a schedule as hard as Auburn's this season.

No it isn’t. Holmes belongs in the bullpen and his elbow is a time bomb. Waldrep needs his innings throttled and more time in AAA. Sale is another year older and injury prone. Strider hasn’t been great since 2023. Reylo hasn’t thrown a meaningful pitch in 2 years and has one SP season under his belt in years
They weren’t fine before this injury they definitely aren’t now

The Atlanta Braves financial statements are publicly available and serve as a general guide for understanding the business of baseball. Any good accountant can move some decimals here and there, but these are a good starting ground.
The Braves made $46M in profit last year on $600M in baseball revenue and currently have $150M cash reserves. They're making huge profits (only 15% expenses) from The Battery, a reminder that the business of baseball spans beyond the concourse.
This shows that, yes, teams like the Braves (or your favorite franchise in the top 1/2 of baseball revenues) could probably spend more. This also shows that they could not spend anywhere near the levels of LAD, who are projected to spend $300M more this year than the Braves on payroll and taxes alone.
Peep TV revenue for the Braves - incredibly strong at nearly $165M during baseball season in 2025. It's still hundreds of millions short of what LAD brings in. That's why you're starting to hear about Rob Manfred wanting to consolidate MLB's media rights. The idea that 29 other owners are just broke boys who are choosing not to spend like the Dodgers is a logical fallacy. They are not capable of sustaining losses of 8-9 figures each year. We've seen it fail time and time again in this sport. You can handle losses in the short-term, but it's not a long-term ownership strategy.
With all due respect to 3YearLetterman, I'm convinced that people who think everyone should spend like this are the same ones who are financing their waterbeds.

Wow. This is the right call. But it doesn’t make it any less sad. There are many people who will celebrate today and forget that there were great moments for Orlando in this jersey.
As for my family, we will remember that Orlando reached out to us personally to tell us how touched he and his wife were after reading about Poppy. That he and his wife were up until 4 in the morning reading Poppy updates when he had to be at the ST complex in just a few hours. That he donated to Poppy’s GFM and asked us to keep them updated on her situation as it progressed.
Orlando is a good human and a great father before he is a baseball player. So I want to thank him and his family for caring about our little girl and wish him the best of luck in whatever the future may hold for his career.
