Investing in midwives is crucial to saving lives, as they help make pregnancy and childbirth safer for mothers and their babies. @UNFPA works to address the global shortage of midwives, ensuring more mothers have access to the skilled care they need, wherever they are.

A girl is married somewhere in the world every 3 seconds - cutting her childhood short, ending her education, and putting her health and future at risk. The “urgency to end child marriage is greater than ever”. Progress must accelerate by at least 20 times by 2030. #UNFPA calls on governments, communities, and partners to “invest, at scale and over time” to ensure girls’ rights are upheld - everywhere. For more read @UNFPA Executive Director @unfpachief statement for International Day of the Girl here 👉🏿 bit.ly/4yLonG0 #DayOfTheGirl #EndChildMarriage #InvestInGirls #BodilyAutonomy

Did you know? According to #EDHS2025, around 35% of married women in #Ethiopia use a modern contraceptive method. And access is far from even, from just 2% in Somali region to 56% in Sidama. Closing that gap is the next chapter of progress. #WorldContraceptionDay

A landmark moment for @UNFPA at #UNGA81 as countries and partners pledged over $700m for reproductive health. Now it’s time to turn these commitments into action: expanding access to life-saving maternal healthcare and family planning for millions of women worldwide. #UNGA

🍃 As development financing comes under increasing pressure globally, stronger partnerships and better coordination are critical to sustaining development gains. 🔹The EAC today reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with four UN agencies: UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF and WHO. ☘️ A delegation comprising the UNFPA Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa, @LZigomo, the WHO Regional Director for Africa, @ProfJanabi, the UNICEF Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa, @EvaUNICEF, and the UNAIDS Deputy Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa, @Medhin_Tsehaiu, paid a joint courtesy call on the EAC Secretary General, Amb. Stephen P. Mbundi, at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha. 🔹 The discussions focused on establishing a strategic partnership framework to bring greater alignment to EAC–UN collaboration through joint planning and coordinated action. 🔹 The framework will build on the agencies’ existing work with the EAC and Partner States across various interconnected priorities, including health and education. 🔹 It will also strengthen the sharing of evidence and effective approaches across Partner States, support more coordinated technical assistance and help ensure available resources deliver greater impact. @UNFPA_ESARO @WHOAFRO @UNICEFAfrica @UNAIDS_ESA
