For #FluorescenceFriday sharing the fantastic work of postdoc Sarah McLarnon! A follow up to our '23 Development paper where we asked: Does precise vascular patterning matter for function and what happens after ischemic injury? The results were surprising! journals.physiology.org/doi/…

Lastly, meet Jenn, the McKey lab postdoc! Jenn received her PhD in neuroscience from @UMich , where she studied the properties of GnRH neurons & how they are altered in a mouse model of PCOS🧠. When she's not working, she's hiking☀️, reading📚 or watching sports⚽️🏈🏀 @jaime_jenn

Globally, millions of individuals are affected by endometrial / uterine disorders, yet the #endometrium and the role of its #cellular #heterogeneity in these disorders have been hugely understudied compared with other human tissues and diseases.

I'm European. I recently visited the USA for the first time since 2018, hitting up Las Vegas and New York City. What I witnessed left me stunned. 15 American oddities I still can't wrap my head around:

This is an interesting idea: turning a cancer's drug resistance against it These are growth curves of tumours in mice, treated with a drug (a tyrosine kinase inhibitor). The tumours initially shrink but they all - slowly but surely - become resistant: This study aimed to convert this resistance into vulnerability, by supplying tumours with a plasmid that deliberately provides resistance to the drug - but also encodes a suicide gene What this means is that tumours shrink initially as they're treated with the tyrosine kinase inhibitor, but then grow back - fast - as they start to express the resistance gene This expands the pool of resistant cells, but also the pool of cells with the suicide gene - so when the suicide gene is switched on (purple arrow), the tumours regress: Leighow et al: nature.com/articles/s41587-0…
