Tonight, Jews all over the world put everything down. Yom Kippur is the one day of the year when the noise stops. No work. No food. No distractions. Just a full and honest accounting of who we were this past year and who we intend to be in the next one. What I love most about this day is what it asks of us. Not to be perfect, but to be honest. To repair what we broke. To forgive what was done to us. To begin again. My family arrived in Canada in 1956 with almost nothing.
