Earlier in my career I worked on geospatial data/mapping almost exclusively. I'm so glad to see leaflet still going at a time that's increasingly tough for open source. One of my favorite libraries ๐Ÿ’œ
The default Leaflet marker icon might get an overhaul for 2.0! Which style do you prefer โ€” the current one on the left or the new one on the right?

A moment exactly 14 years ago. Later that year, what you see on the screens got released as @LeafletJS. At the time, I never would have dreamed of how much this little piece of code would impact my career and the mapping software industry as a whole. Good times!

Here's my conversation with @mourner on the story behind @LeafletJS, arguably the simplest mapping library and used on maps all over the Internet today We talk about what makes maps complicated, keeping code simple, open source & life in Ukraine Watch: youtu.be/k7aVBINDRJg

A telling e-mail I got in response to the pro-Ukraine message on the @LeafletJS website. A Russian guy tells me that Russia is kind and peace-loving country liberating Ukraine from nazis, and because I'm lying about it, he will track down and slit the throat of my twin daughters. โ€“ at Ukraine

๐Ÿ“With just a few lines of code, you can now overlay historic maps on a @LeafletJS map with the new Allmaps plugin. See observablehq.com/@allmaps/leโ€ฆ to try it outโ€ผ๏ธ

May has been rough for ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ. Most of the nightly air raids on this viz are actual bombings of Kyiv with suicide drones and cruise/ballistic missiles. The last 3 nights were especially loud โ€” enough for my daughters to wake up. Donate here to help ๐Ÿ™ savelife.in.ua/en/donate-en

After 16 years of Google Maps API, WMS/WFS/WMTS, we're finally rolling out our cloud native map that uses @cogeotiff, @flatgeobuf, @LeafletJS your browser and nothing else. Read about it: postholer.com/articles/Next-โ€ฆ Try it: postholer.com/map/Continentaโ€ฆ #gis #gischat @pctnews @foss4g

๐ŸŒŒ One of the cooler applications of @LeafletJS I've seen: an interactive constellation of 52 thousand books for exploring similar books visually nathanrooy.github.io/posts/2โ€ฆ

Why all the politics, why not just create great software? Because I literally need to be alive to do that. Gosh, these people. And from a burner e-mail, of course.

One of the reasons of my burnout is the pressure for @LeafletJS maintenance (and the consequent guilt of not doing so). The current surge in activity feels... unexplainably and deeply heartwarming. teapawt.net/LeafletJS/status/15831โ€ฆ
If you looked at the Leaflet GitHub activity chart exactly one year ago, you'd assume the project's future is pretty grim. But look at that amazing burst of activity since! Miracles do happen in open source. Thank you to everyone who makes this happen. โค๏ธ

Very happy to see my labor of love continue to thrive. 12 years and counting, and no signs of stopping now!

It's #BandcampFriday, so if you ever wonder how a programming nerd translates his trademark perfectionism and aesthetic sense to writing complex, deeply melodic rock music with lush string arrangements (and sings / plays an acoustic guitar), ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸŽธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ obiymydoschu.bandcamp.com
