This is a total farce. First, Burnham says that he wants to surrender control of our borders. Then, he promises to put it to the people. Now he won't even commit to that. He's happy to drag us into another decade of back-and-forth over Europe, whether people want it or not.
Chaotic lobby briefing eventually clarifies that just because Andy Burnham said he would hold a referendum before reviving free movement with the EU, that does not mean he will

So weird that people see Brexit as a left v right issue when leaving the EU has long been seen by many elements of the left as a good idea.
There is nothing socialist about a system of free movement that is used by multi-nationals to undermine wages. WATCH my Brexit speech today.

No they won’t. They’ll put it in their manifesto and when they win, they’ll say we voted for it.

My money's increasingly on an early election. Reopening old Brexit wounds makes the most sense if you consider it as part of the (so far successful) strategy to consolidate the left wing vote at the expense of the Greens and LibDems. That's not to say that rejoining the EU is not actually what they want. It clearly still is. But it makes more sense why they're saying so much about it now, rather than in 2028. Could we see Burnham go to the King as early as this Thursday?

I don't think any Conservative should be sneering at others over defence considering what the party did to the military
You can see why reform can’t get a defence spokesperson

"Free movement had allowed, in my view, the undercutting of wages. Some people debate this, but I saw evidence of it. Where people were brought in by agencies from other European countries and it was used to bring wages down" Andy Burnham in 2019

Yet again @andyburnham rules out an early general election. In May he ruled out reopening Brexit. Yesterday he talked about bringing back free movement of people. Can we believe a word he says?

Interesting difference between the PM and his Home Secretary over Brexit and small boats. Andy Burnham today blamed the crisis on Britain losing its EU returns agreement after Brexit but Shabana Mahmood has previously rejected that argument. She told the Home Affairs Committee in February: "I am sure there are lots of other debates to be had about the rights and wrongs of Brexit, but is Brexit responsible for the boats? I do not think that is true... “The idea that this has happened because we have lost the access to Dublin and the returns agreement with the EU - I think that is too much of a stretch.” In September, she went further, arguing that under Britain's one-in, one-out deal with France “more returns have happened than ever was the case under the Dublin arrangements, when we were still members of the EU". She also warned that it was “a mistake to see the EU’s new pact as some sort of new silver bullet” that would eliminate Britain's migration problems.

I asked Labour MP Dawn Butler why she's demanding my constituents pay more tax to fund "reparations". She wouldn't answer, but called me a "racist" in the Commons. It's not right to make people pay "reparations" when they've done nothing wrong. Name-calling doesn't change that.

FYI, talking about Brexit yesterday, Angela Rayner claimed that... “The evidence is really clear in terms of 20% down in exports to the EU, 16,000 businesses no longer exporting to the EU, it has been the red tape on the EU deal we got, has been damaging to the economy”. But if this is indeed the evidence, it really is not clear! Let's unpick it... 🧵

Whether you are happy or not that the Prime Minister is opening up the Brexit debate again, there are two things we know for certain. 1. He lied about not opening up the Brexit debate again. 2. He wouldn't be the PM right now, if he hadn't lied about it.
