I know someone who spent almost three years' worth of savings planning a wedding. Everything had to be perfect, the hall, the decorations, the food, the aso ebi, everything. They wanted guests to talk about how beautiful the wedding was.
The wedding came and went. People ate, danced, took pictures and went home. A few days later, some were already gossiping about the couple.
Meanwhile, the newlyweds were left with financial pressure they would spend years recovering from.
It made me realise that a wedding is just one day, but the financial consequences can follow you for years. Don't mortgage your future to impress people who won't remember your decorations next month.

Honestly, it’s a double standard that needs to be called out. How can two people engage in the same behaviour, yet only one is expected to carry the shame? A woman’s worth doesn’t decrease because of her sexual choices, and a man’s behaviour shouldn’t be celebrated simply because he’s a man. But sadly, we’ve normalised this double standard for so long that some people don’t even see anything wrong with it. Let’s stop making excuses for men while holding women to a completely different standard.
No, but on a serious note, how did we successfully make women the default recipients of the “cheap” label?
This one genuinely gets me thinking. A man and a woman can be equally promiscuous, yet somehow, only the woman is considered cheap. How did we normalise this?
Men even coined phrases like “a key that opens many locks is a master key, but a lock that can be opened by many keys is useless” just to justify and defend their own promiscuity. ☹️
