You Can See Everything contains very huge eye #anagram
Remember when Sarah Polley made Stories We Tell, supposedly about a paternity question in her family history, but it actually turned out to be a meta-documentary about truth, narrative, and subjectivity? Or when Banksy made Exit Through the Gift Shop, which at first seemed to be about street artist Thierry Guetta but in the end turned out to be a meta-documentary about truth, art, and subjectivity? Remember when Rodney Ascher made Room 237, nominally about hidden meanings in The Shining, but really about truth, narrative, and subjectivity? Would you believe me if I told you that You Can See Everything is only superficially about Elizabeth Holmes, that actually it's a meta-documentary about truth, narrative, and subjectivity? Let’s set aside the fact that Amanda Seyfried shows up to atone for her Hulu biopic and that her plotline is copied from The Act of Killing, which itself stole its main gimmick from some Cambodian guy’s movie about the Khmer Rouge. Here we have another postmodern prestige doc which either can't find something to say about its subject or thinks having a subject is gauche, so it throws up its hands and settles for a thematic focus on "unknowability" instead—not out of necessity, not because it’s about the Zodiac Killer and they can’t find him, but just because they think that kind of abstraction is high-minded. Every cliche is here: The filmmaker deliberately entangled with his subject, the film happily exposing its own artifice (because only dolts who believe in “objectivity” would try to hide that), the reflexive, flamboyantly meta structure which I guess is supposed to feel truth-coded, or remind you of truth and untruth in some way. Letterboxd users, who learned in college that truth is hopelessly mired in perspective, certainly appreciate these decisions and feel the movie is a “hall of mirrors,” but I found it boring and legible. I’ve already seen Capturing the Friedmans, Tabloid, F for Fake, Letter From Siberia, etc. I already know about “subjectivity.” I actually discovered it when I was a child and I began to experience the world. So yes, this is another The Ambiguity Is The Point movie. That’s why it's titled You Can See Everything—because you can’t. And that’s why some of the posters show Elizabeth Holmes but kind of blurry, because it’s about truth, which is also blurry. And if you think that’s mind-blowing then you will probably like the movie. Personally, I think the filmmakers are confusing an empirical problem with an epistemic one, so actually their theming doesn't line up, because a lot of their questions are in fact quite "knowable," but whatever

So glad the selection ritual is over tomorrow. I only feel hatred for the selection ritual these days.

“Captain Clark welcomes you aboard” is a WSB refrain re ‘the 23 enigma’, a common intro to ‘synchronicity’. The electrician visits at 11:11, a common intro-sync. The company is ‘Async’. Syncs often accompany trauma; “I feel personally attacked by this relatable content” = trauma.

I know “candidate for Senate” has no prerequisites, but doesn’t the Air Force have a basic literacy requirement?

How Can We Determine the Age of Ancient Stone Walls? Officially? There's no straightforward way. At least not directly. After all, the stones themselves are supposedly millions of years old, right? And determining when they were carved is indeed impossible. There are, however, indirect methods routinely used to establish the age of ancient walls. Two particularly relevant ones are: Take organic material from beneath the wall and assume it has been there ever since the wall was built. Its radiocarbon age then provides a chronological constraint: the wall must be younger than the material beneath it. Determine the age of the mortar used as a binding material between the stones, using a technique called OSL dating. But here's the catch: megalithic walls are famous precisely for NOT having mortar or any other binding material between their stones. Uh-oh! Still, let's take a closer look at what the hell OSL dating actually is. Perhaps it can be useful even without mortar! OSL stands for Optically Stimulated Luminescence. The technique takes advantage of the fact that quartz grains mixed into mortar are essentially tiny geological clocks. And these particular clocks can be reset by exposure to light. Here's how it works: When quartz grains are exposed to daylight, their OSL signal is progressively erased. Under sufficiently strong sunlight, this process can happen remarkably quickly, sometimes in less than a minute. Once the sand is mixed into mortar and the mortar is incorporated into a wall, the grains are shielded from light. Their geological clocks start ticking again. Natural ionizing radiation from the surrounding materials and the environment gradually transfers energy to the quartz crystals. Some of the resulting electrons become trapped in defects within the crystal structure. The longer the grains remain buried in darkness, the more radiation dose they accumulate. And here's the clever part: the accumulated radiation dose can be measured. If we know how quickly the material has been receiving that dose, we can calculate how much time has passed since the grains were last exposed to sufficient light. And that's precisely what happens during OSL analysis! A sample is collected under carefully controlled dark conditions, so that the quartz grains' clocks aren't accidentally reset. It is then transported to a laboratory, where the quartz grains are stimulated with controlled light, typically blue or green. This releases the trapped electrons, allowing them to recombine and emit light. The resulting luminescence is measured. Sounds complicated? Because it is. But the basic principle is simple: the quartz grains in mortar can reveal when the sand was last exposed to daylight, provided the grains were sufficiently exposed during mortar preparation and subsequently shielded from light. Of course, not every grain necessarily gets fully reset. This is one of the major challenges in mortar dating, and specialized single-grain analysis can help overcome it. And here's where things get interesting! If a supposed natural rock is actually some kind of ancient concrete, then the quartz grains incorporated into that material could potentially be dated using exactly the same principle. The technique is NOT inherently restricted to mortar. In principle, it can be applied to other man-made composite materials containing suitable quartz grains, provided the grains were exposed to sufficient light before being incorporated into the material and the necessary dating conditions are met. TA-DAAAAA! So why isn't everybody doing this? Well, the explanation is simple. BECAUSE ARTIFICIAL STONES DON'T EXIST. PERIOD! That's humanity for you. Trapped in dogmas and outdated beliefs, we build artificial intelligence and send spacecraft into outer space. Absolutely incredible! ------------------------------------- By the way, am I really the only one noticing that while the stones in the wall are clearly full of holes and bubbles, the scattered loose stones lying next to it — which the builders apparently tossed into the tower later as rubble fill — are NOT porous at all? This photo was taken at Sillustani.

Arrange 1–19 in a honeycomb of 19 hexagonal cells. Every straight line, in all 3 directions, can sum to 38, whether it contains 3, 4 or 5 cells. Even stranger, there is only one solution up to rotation and reflection. No larger normal magic hexagon exists.

No better way to celebrate Hallowe’en than to recognize the Saturn Return of a McLuhan-pilled Artist explicitly identifying ‘the Antichrist’ with ‘the electric environment’ m.youtube.com/watch?v=vg3ubb…
