Replying to @ABDanielleSmith
Danielle Smith solicited the opinion of Albertans with the recent referendum. Albertans made their preference known, and Danielle still ignores the outcome. So what’s the point of a referendum if Danielle ignores the results?

Merit-based hiring? From the UCP? Are you kidding?
Insecure leaders don’t hire competent people. They hire people who won’t threaten their position.
The UCP has spent years pushing competent people out and replacing them with political loyalists. Now they want to lecture Albertans about hiring the best person for the job?
This is about saving face with a base that has lost confidence in the UCP.
With an AGM looming, court cases mounting and RCMP investigations underway, the Premier needs distractions.
Meanwhile, governing takes a backseat. Affordability, healthcare and the issues affecting Albertans every day are left unaddressed.
This isn’t about competency. It’s about political survival from a government increasingly out of touch.

The best person for the job should get the job. Period.
Today we tabled legislation that would ensure hiring and promotion decisions in the public sector are based on merit, not DEI policies. Mandatory workplace training will be relevant to the roles and responsibilities of the employee, instead of mandatory DEI sessions.
Every Albertan deserves a fair shot, and fairness means everyone competes on the same terms.

Why didn't Danielle Smith and Rajan Sawhney attend the First Ministers meeting with First Nations?
According to Sawhney, it would have been "impossible" for them to attend yesterday and make it back for today's legislative session.

Just heard a story on the radio about an eight year-old who’s never been to school. The child’s parents are Palestinian and because she is in Alberta they need a work permit before she can go to school. They can’t apply before they come here. What are we doing?? 💔

@JMeddings I wonder if ABs would be surprised to learn that over 40% of docs licensed in AB are foreign trained and “immigrants”?
Over 5500 docs from other countries
Wonder if they would have come if the govt refused their families HC and EDUC for the 1st yr!
Hey Alberta: is this incompetence or a full on intentional lie?
9003 Acute Care Spaces is NOWHERE near a record number for our prov
In the late 1980s we had 17,790 acute care spaces in hospitals (~12,000 acute care beds, +LTC beds)
1988: 7.4 beds/1000
2026: 1.5 beds/1000

Lots spin in this news conference, but I’ll highlight just one thing that really sticks in my craw. Smith keeps referring to it as a “citizen-initiated referendum.”
Settings aside Q10, which citizens, exactly, initiated the other 9? They were NOT based on citizen petitions.
Taking questions from the media this morning on the referendum results and what comes next for Alberta.

It's fall, the season of heightened pre-AGM #MapleMAGA #UCP rhetoric as @ABDanielleSmith tries desperately to hold onto her seppie base.

Danielle Smith comes out swinging against the Alberta NDP, against the woke, and reaches out to her Conservative Christian supporters and their discriminatory values without advertising her atheist beliefs.
Danielle Smith is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and snake who is ready to spread her venom.

A reminder that the law initially said two questions asking essentially the same thing could not be asked within five years. Then the Premier changed the legislation to get her preferred question about separating.
She does that for separatists.

Smith is distancing herself from separatism, but not from MAGA. Listen to the language she uses when talking to UCP members about the NDP. “Woke cancel culture” “Open borders” “Gender change” “Defund the police” “Vaccines” She still wants to turn Alberta into MAGA North.

The referendum is behind us. Albertans gave their answers and our party must honour that mandate.
What comes next is the only fight that matters, and it is twelve months away.
Naheed Nenshi's NDP have told us exactly what they will do with power:
🟠 Reopen the drug consumption sites we closed
🟠 Let minors undergo irreversible gender surgeries without their parents' knowledge.
🟠 Shut down school choice.
🟠 Bring back the production cap and the net zero regulations to phase out our energy sector.
🟠 Open border immigration.
🟠 A carbon tax.
🟠 And Avi Lewis in Ottawa pulling Nenshi’s strings.
United, our party will win. Divided the NDP wins and all Albertans would suffer as a result.
The time for division is over.
The time to unite and fight for a stronger Alberta and Canada is now.

Tom Mulcair: "I don't think that Danielle Smith should be allowed to pose herself as some sort of anti-separatist hero. She's the one who set this thing in motion, and I think that she should be answerable for it."

Forever Canadian sought a vote in the legislature, not Smith’s referendum. Smith chose to add the question, wrote her own version, and proceeded despite Forever Canadian’s request to postpone. Blaming them ignores how her (and Kenney’s) actions got them here.
The costs of this divisive referendum could have funded:
1000 additional teachers or 1730 ed assistants for one year.
Roughly 3 new elementary schools
About 900 nursing positions
1.3m hours of home care support
$26m bump for overburdened women's shelters.
