Essay feedback workflow: While students draft, verbally confer to ensure claim, evidence, explanation exist. Ensure students understand all academic vocabulary. Spend no more than 3 minutes per student. #SustainableFeedback #EquityByDesign @ISTE_ASCD

If you want kids to learn from their mistakes, correct in real time. If practice makes permanent, be sure students practice what they need. #LearnerLens #FeedbackTheyCanUse @ISTE_ASCD

Providing feedback about clear examples and supported points during writing, rather than after, gives students the best opportunity to craft strong analytical writing. #TimingMatters #LearningMoments @ISTE_ASCD

Written feedback is much faster to reproduce as stems can be copy/pasted. Audio or video feedback is more personal but takes more time. Written feels more appropriate for after a task where spoken would fit in the moment. #FormatRemix #ClarityVsTone @ISTE_ASCD

I used to worry that feedback might discourage learners, but now I see it as a tool for helping them master my content's critical skills. #FeedbackMatters #EncourageGrowth #ReflectToImprove @ISTE_ASCD

When I noticed "mic drop quotes", I focused my feedback on clearly explaining the "so what?" of the quote, inviting my students to clarify their argument and support their thesis. #TeachrrFeedback #GrowthMindset #LearningLoop @ISTE_ASCD

I am focusing on giving feedback that is actionable so that students can improve their mastery of reading comprehension and analytical writing. #FeedbackInAction #ClarityKindnessImpact @ISTE_ASCD

I used to think effective feedback meant telling students what they did right or wrong, but now I understand it's about identifying their current strength(s) and helping them move forward in their learning. #EffectiveFeedback #VisibleLearning #FeedbackGrowth @ISTE_ASCD

Another @AMLE conference is in the books! I am so deeply appreciative of the 4 (!) chances I had to share my work with others. #AMLE24 @FrostMSVA

After only three days of class, a student went to the National Book Festival, found the children's book author I said I was sad to miss (we couldn't go this year), and did this ... 😭😭🥰 #OneFrost @fcpsnews @OliverJeffers @samwinston_

Oh my goodness, yes to this whole 🧵! As an 8th grade teacher, I'm only seeing the tip of this in how it changed state law, but nothing being offered hits what it should how it should to benefit all kids.
Most if not all resistance to shifting trends in literacy instruction comes not from teachers opposed to teaching phonics (few are) but from those who recognize the harm of culturally destructive boxed programs that keep us from giving our students what they need & deserve

I feel like very similar things could be said about taking a full load of honors courses. Stick to the interesting things you're willing to work harder in.
Replying to @AP_Trevor
Reminder #3a: Our research finds that taking just 1-2 APs per year optimizes a student’s readiness for college. Take more only if the subject matter truly interests. spr.ly/60085Amnn

Sitting at little lady's dance class, assessing student work. I remember doing the same during last year's recital.

One of the best things about the #GridCertificationCohort is getting deep feedback on my GRID plans. @teachbetterteam
