There's a frightening number of people in this world who really seem to believe "We could have avoided Nazism, if only I'd been around to wittily point out the logical fallacies in Hitler's arguments."

"Good evening. Bomb, shooting, weapons cache, this man says the council need to put out more benches, and a man in Dungannon shows us his collection of ice cubes. Good night."
'Local news' on BBC NI really was very different to all the other BBC regions in the 90's. (New Years Day 1993)

Comedians, of course, are near-exclusively concerned with forming serious countries
This type of twee Irishness ("chicken fillet roll nationalism") has to be eradicated if we're ever going to be a serious country

I kept seeing Jason Arday's name on links and wondering why the hell so much attention was being given to some academic. Then I saw a photo and went "ohhhhh I see" The UK print media as a whole are racists who can go fuck themselves

I think this might be because, piece of work though Rowling is, she hasn't been accused of serially sexually abusing young women
You know it’s really telling that the entirety of Gaiman’s former fanbase dropped him instantly but JK’s still makes excuses but maybe it’s because we read other books than just Harry Potter

Thing is, an awful lot of great films are based on books which aren't considered great. So either novels are a much, much higher form of art, or there's quite a lot of films that are better than the books. I've not read The Exorcist but I'll bet the book is better.
I'm tired and sıck of people saying: “the book was better than the movie.” Give me a movie that was actually WAY BETTER than the book. I want to know which books were so bad that Hollywood had to save them.

People are taking offense at *this*.
Ireland sure loves the 'one small stand next to three big stands' bowl stadium design.

And of course anyone who makes that case is not allowed to have any opinions on anything ever again. Yes, that includes voting

I think there is a case to be made that The Lord of the Rings movies are better than the books. I am not sure I’d make it, but I think that’s essentially when the line changed where they got good enough to catch up with imagination and they also let them be very long as a series

Yeah, I get like that when I start drinking at 7am too
I go for a haircut, the barber can’t understand what I’m saying. I go for a coffee, the barista can’t understand what I’m saying. I go for a pint, the barman can’t understand what I’m saying. Welcome to my home city of London in 2026.

I like watching a certain section of British society wrestle with the impact of Rod Liddle, while all of Ireland choruses "he's the guy who ran off and left his wife for a young one"

Wonder if I'm the only one who hears the news and goes "oh yeah Ceuta, that's where Henning Wehn went before he took an unscheduled holiday in Morocco and was listed as a missing person" Would I Lie To You corrupts us all

Cos Russians are called Oleg and they have yachts the size of arks
Why are rich and successful business people in Russia called "oligarchs", but anywhere in the West they are simply "billionaires"?

I've not seen this said enough so here goes. A 1.7% overspend needs actioning but it's not a major disaster. Starmer's Labour wanted to emphasise Tory economic incompetence, their equivalent of Liam Byrne's note. Inflicting hardship on people was *entirely* a PR choice.
This is the fiscal black hole that amounted to 1.7% of government spend, much of which was already known about, that Labour used as a reason to take people's winter fuel allowance

The problem with holding Starmer up as a principled, sensible leader who didn't get recognition for his endeavours is... he was neither principled nor sensible. He was an opportunist, duplicitous empty suit who had no idea what to do in power once he got there

Keir Starmer’s biggest mistake was first addressing the fiscal black hole instead of making a TikTok with Rachael Reeves about the merits of scampi fries over pork scratchings.

It is indeed true that the first time I tried American food, I thought I would never recover.
Team USA lost the game. America won something bigger. Millions of Europeans, Asians, and Africans just discovered American food, American hospitality, and air conditioning. They will never recover.

In GAA the winner must always be magnificent but I'm calling it now: that was purely a Cork implosion. Limerick will murder Galway.
