Field trials like this provide valuable insight into how hybrids perform across growing conditions. 🌽 Take a look at the 2026 MSU Corn Hybrid Demonstration results, including DEKALB® hybrids in the trial.

This is definitely going to be the year we find out just how much water is too much. These two fields are just across the road from each other, yet show two very different stories. We’re seeing a lot of low spots with drowned-out pockets in fields across Illinois today, as well as wind damage in corn. This is McLean County, IL. #pftour26

Test stalk integrity using the pinch test. Prioritize harvest for that field if 10%+ stalk rot.
Ask local Extension for more info.

Corn stalk rots cost farmers $4.2 billion in the past five years.
Test stalk integrity using the pinch test 40-60 days after pollination. Prioritize harvest for a field if 10%+ stalk rot.

Why may we see more kernels tipping back on certain corn hybrids as in this comparison?
Hybrids can simply build yield differently. The left hybrid tends to produce a modest # of kernels per row, but counters with large, heavy kernels, while the right one has more kernels. 🌽

9 of 11 corn hybrid trial locations evaluated in a @MississippiCorn funded project. Take home message: Curvularia leaf spot was the most widespread and prominent disease (left image) with Phomopsis leaf spot (right image) being the only other disease of note in 3 non-irr trials

Diplodia leaf streak can present lesions that approach and sometimes surpass 12” in length. Abnormal lesions like these are not the norm. One hybrid plot at one hybrid trial location had these…..not enough to evaluate unfortunately @MississippiCorn

In an Executive Order just signed today, the Trump administration is temporarily suspending duties on Moroccan phosphate imports for 8 months. Here's what the emergency declaration by the @WhiteHouse does:
*Temporarily suspends certain anti-dumping and countervailing duties on phosphate fertilizer imports from Morocco
*Allows duty-free importation of Moroccan phosphate fertilizer for up to eight months, or until the emergency is terminated
*Directs federal agencies to implement the suspension and monitor fertilizer supply conditions during the relief period
*Aims to improve near-term fertilizer availability heading into upcoming application seasons while longer-term domestic production efforts continue

Gray Leaf Spot on corn. Appears as tan rectangular vein-limited lesions that can merge & kill entire leaves. Thrives in prolonged hot humid conditions. Can reduce yields. Control with resistant hybrids, crop rotation, proper tillage & fungicides when needed @CropNetwork #Corn

And not indicative of a plant disease which is oftentimes blamed as the culprit. These leaves tend to be in the lower canopy, but can occur in other parts of the canopy. Foliar diseases do not tend to occur on leaf edges and are generally more random than that.
Yellow and burnt corn leaves are showing up that are likely seldomly seen heat stress. Sultry hot days earlier this month were tough, especially on plants with roots impaired by anaerobic soils. Humidity makes it hard to cool leaves, causing issues. 🌽#mscorn

As we approach dent in the MS corn crop the bulk of the lesions below the ear leaf are not diseases of concern. Southern corn leaf blight, Diplodia lesions, northern corn leaf spot are all not problematic and quite common this year. Focus on ear leaf and above @MississippiCorn

Excellent example of a suspected virus-positive plant and its distribution in the field. Yes, that’s ONE plant. Oftentimes, viruses present themselves as irregularly distributed and not a widespread issue. Plant submitted for testing/confirmation #mscrops

In my 19 years I’ve only witnessed NCLB what I would consider “bad” in two fields….one of those was today. Multiple leaves with multiple lesions. Rotation and tillage make a world of difference on plant diseases @MStateCorn @MississippiCorn
