Last year, I had the opportunity to interview Ed Logg, the programmer behind games like Asteroids, Centipede, Gauntlet, and many more. That interview was originally intended to be part of a straightforward career retrospective. However, over the proceeding months...

He’s describing an issue seen in many businesses & platforms. Co-ops or employee owned businesses address those issues, but they aren’t intended to work on a very large scale, especially not a global scale like Steam. “Better” platforms exist but won’t serve the same audience.

To my memory, it is relatively short. A bit repetitive in some of the combat and enemy distribution, but the game is full of wild visuals that kept me pushing through to the end. I’ve never played the old God of War games but I’ve been told it plays similarly,

True! I've seen a few good fan-made upscales online, but they are super rare in my experience. Too many people seem to be okay cutting corners and letting things like eyes, letters, hair, and other fine details become strange mush.

I carried the shovel, crank, and manhole key to the end just in case I wound up needing them again (I didn’t)

This was the most accessible tank controls game I’ve ever played. I can barely last ten minutes many others

For any popular older games, it’s often great, but some more obscure games just have these quirky ass guides written by cheeky little weirdos. Still, more charming than an AI hallucination

When I encounter tech that makes an easy thing harder, I feel angry. I feel like someone invented something just to profit from fomo and stupidity, and now I have to be inconvenienced by that. Just feels like some real evil shit to me, really awful trickery.

I’m a bit of a Luddite. I had a landline til 2017, I have never and never will own a smartphone. I think Spotify and the like are for fools. Still, I love finding tech that I can make work for me, to supplement what I love doing in life instead of exploiting it or making it worse

As a society, we still can’t grow past incentivizing people to try and profit from things that are known to cause cancer. If AI can cure cancer it will surely be as expensive and exploitative as any other life saving treatment that comes from profit driven research.

Before going all in on point & click, I was prototyping a similar mix of cinematic platformer and first person adventure game mechanics, just like in Silver Pines. I feel like we could have been prototyping at the same time! Very cool to see that the idea works just as I imagined

Just saw it earlier tonight, really wonderful work. Such profound illustrations of how we shape reality for one another and ourselves.
