Five weeks ago the Conservative Party of BC had a new leader, a snap election and a mountain to climb. On Saturday they won a majority. Lorne Doerkson will be the next Premier of British Columbia. @Mobilize_Media_ was proud to be part of this campaign. A few thank-yous. To the campaign leadership team, who built a clear message, trusted the data and made fast decisions every single day. It was a privilege to work alongside you. To the Mobilize team, who gave this campaign everything for over a month. Every one of you showed up. I’m proud to work with you. To Lorne, for running a campaign on character and letting the message do the work. And to the voters of British Columbia. You get the last word, and you used it. Congratulations to the whole team. Very exciting stuff.

Move over Champagne Socialists, here come the Lucky Lager Conservatives. The British Columbia election itself was an astonishing act of political self-immolation for the @BCNDPCaucus. Premier Eby’s defeat reflected frustrations that went well beyond industrial policy, but rodeo cowboy turned Premier-elect @LDoerkson's victory speech revealed something more enduring than an election campaign's immediate grievances: a changing conception of which party speaks for the people who produce British Columbia’s wealth. “It happens in Kitimat, where B.C. natural gas leaves to power the world. It happens in Fort St. John, where the gas comes out of the ground. In Prince George, Quesnel, and Williams Lake, where a mill job should still pay a family nicely.” He continued his tour through the orchards of the Okanagan, the fishing fleets of Vancouver Island and the century-old smelter in Trail, before arriving in Surrey and, finally, Vancouver, “where the ideas and the head offices are.” The ordering was evocative. Vancouver, the province’s financial and cultural capital, came last. This political geography had an almost Hunger Games quality, with the prosperous metropolitan Capitol resting on the productive capacity of the surrounding districts. Yet Doerkson’s account went beyond the familiar populist denunciation of urban elites. He described an integrated industrial economy in which a mill running in Quesnel supports a trucker working in Surrey, while a mine opening in the north keeps a port busy in Delta. It was a celebration of productive labour that might once have been delivered by a socialist trade-union leader. Instead, it came from the newly victorious leader of British Columbia’s Conservative Party. So how have populist conservatives become the voice of industrial labour? Part of the answer lies in the changing nature of the threats facing industrial employment. When environmental restrictions threaten an industry’s continued operation, employers and employees can find themselves on the same side of the barricades. A logging company and its workers may disagree over profit sharing, but they share a powerful interest in keeping the mill running. The merchant right need not promise workers a larger share of the pie when it can present itself as the defender of the bakery. Read the full essay on my s\/bst@ck. link in replies.

Well, Felicia, this didn’t age very well. On September 21, you were telling us about your 75 million views a month. The voters were yours. Yours, not anybody else’s. You even put it in capital letters, just so we’d understand how important you were. Apparently, you forgot to tell the voters. I’ve been involved in a few elections, Felicia, and here’s something I learned: the voters don’t belong to you. You have to earn their trust. And buying a ring light doesn’t make you a kingmaker. But please, tell us again about your views. Bye, Felicia.

Atheists sometimes tell me I have to choose between God and science. I do not, and neither do you. There is nothing anti-scientific about the idea that an all-powerful, transcendent super-intelligence created the universe and wrote its laws. In fact, it's far more believable to me that this is the explanation for our lawful, intelligible universe than the story I was expected to believe as an atheist - that the universe "just is" or that it's somehow lawful and intelligible despite having no intelligence or will behind it. But what about the big bang? Is that a problem for a Bible-believing Christian? Not at all. Leave aside the age issue - which is frankly the least explosive part of all this - and consider how modern science has caught up with the Genesis narrative in the last 100 years. Modern science has figured out that the universe isn't eternal, as people thought for thousands of years, but suddenly came into being a finite time ago just as Genesis 1:1 describes. I do not have to give up God to believe that. In fact, as a scientist, it's the only way I can make sense of why the universe exists at all and is the way it is. Don't let anyone tell you that you have to choose between God's two books - the Bible and his creation. They are wonderfully compatible.

Should I try to sue this guy? I have mountains of evidence but I am not sure if it’s worth it
The guy who stole almost half of my website without credit, then humiliated me and claimed I stole HIS website, claimed that Bolsonaro had a 100% chance of victory. Then Lula won. LMAOOO

Proud of this lad, my son, who raced back from the UBC T-Birds rugby match against UVic Saturday afternoon to finish his campaign. Gracious, hardworking and articulate - he won the praise of so many. (Result: UBC men are through to the national championships, with a strong push from #4 in the back row.)
What a night, what a campaign. So grateful for the opportunity to represent the B.C. Conservatives as the candidate in Vancouver-Little Mountain. Can’t wait for next time …

My post-election tradition is neighbourhood garbage pick up. Community service takes lots of forms. Sometimes it’s big decisions and tough debates. Sometimes it’s a garbage bag and a pair of gloves. I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep serving Kelowna-Mission in all ways.

I am going to sleep now it's now 2am in Ottawa but I have to say this is the funniest political suicide I've ever seen in Canadian history, David Eby had a majority government and he just give it tot he Conservatives

Congratulations to Premier-designate Doerkson and the BC Conservatives on their victory! Their positive, forward-looking campaign focused on fiscal responsibility, competent government and economic growth clearly resonated. Special credit to @katy_merrifield! 🇨🇦
Thank you, British Columbia. Tonight, you voted for change. You voted for a government that will listen, keep life affordable, and never take your hard-earned money for granted. I want to thank every volunteer who knocked on doors, made calls, and put up signs in the rain. I want to thank our candidates, who stepped forward in a snap election with no time to spare. And I want to thank my wife Shelley and my family for standing beside me every step of the way. To those who didn’t vote for us: I will work just as hard for you. This is your government too. The work starts now. Let’s get to it.

Don’t work in politics they said…but then you help elect an absolute beauty like @LDoerkson …and it’s all worth it. Nice guys do finish first. He treated me, the @MashStrategyCA team and everyone, with grace and respect. What a day, what a night. The lows can be low in politics, but the highs are awesome. It’s a new day in BC!

BREAKING Canada's Parliamentary Budget Officer just EXPOSED another broken promise from Mark Carney. Carney promised Canadians he would LOWER the debt-to-GDP ratio. The PBO revealed the exact opposite. Canada's debt is growing FASTER than its economy under the Liberals.

What a campaign, and what a night! Congratulations to @LDoerkson on being elected the next Premier of BC! It takes a team to pull off a great campaign, and this was a stacked war room of Conservatives united in purpose. But special shout out to my friend @katy_merrifield , who took on what many would have considered too daunting a task. You showed tremendous skill, and navigated the campaign like the pro you are. And @angeloisidorou . Your commitment to the cause and the movement is truly inspirational. It is not hyperbole to say that what happened last night would not have been possible without the work you have done through the years to help lay the foundation. Congratulations to the whole team and the candidates who put their names on the ballot. Hopefully you get a few hours of rest and savour the moment before you dive into getting BC back on track.
