Fannie Mae $FNMA and Freddie Mack $FMCC are getting privatized. In my opinion, the rubicon has been crossed and this is not a possibility anymore, but definitively going to happen.
Here is where I went from curious observer based on @BillAckman publicly discussing his idea here on X, to cautious optimist, to on board:
Craig Phillips, previously at Morgan Stanley $MS, BlackRock $BLK, and the US Treasury Department (under Mnuchin) has been announced today by Freddie Mac as its executive vice president of corporate strategy, external affairs and will also be responsible for regulatory and conservatorship affairs.
At first glance, what is the big deal? We are in the transition period between administrations and there is bound to be plenty of turnover plus hires. The key happens to be in the previous employment history of Mr. Phillips at the Treasury Department under then Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
As counselor to Secretary Mnuchin, Phillips was tasked with the domestic finance portfolio but played a central role in financial regulatory reform plus was a leading figure in ending government control over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In a 2019 speech to an audience at George Mason University, Phillips said “We want to get Fannie and Freddie out of conservatorship, and we want to access private capital doing that.”
Bingo.
Additionally and as a matter of interest:
Craig Phillips also served on the board of @Ripple which utilizes the digital asset $XRP and a new stablecoin $RLUSD for payments. Ripple CEO @bgarlinghouse and General Counsel at Ripple @s_alderoty just met with President Elect Trump at Mar-a-Lago and posted about it here on X.
There does appear to be a much higher demand for change, and it is incoming.

I have been an economist for almost as long as you have been alive. I used to defend our statistical agencies 100% of the time. But, I no longer do.
You are correct that the BLS revises data all the time, but the 818,000 job revision was 1) very large by historical norms 2) follows a pattern of downward revisions to previous months that clearly are historically abnormal 3) is consistent with much weaker civilian jobs data and 4) is consistent with negative full-time job growth.
But, that is not the real reason I distrust our data agencies for the first time in my career.
During COVID, government massaged the data, hid data and Deborah Birx admitted in her book to using/abusing only data that furthered her attempt to get states to put in mask and social distancing mandates.
Vaccine data was also massaged and manipulated.
The FBI changed its crime reporting statistics to make it look like there is less crime in the U.S.
The White House just changed the transcript of President Biden to make it look like he didn’t say what he really said.
We could add Hunters laptop and squashing speech on social media to the list.
If you believe the “other side” is an “existential threat” wouldn’t you do anything to stop it?
Unfortunately, after watching all this, I have come to believe that if government is willing to do all these things it may very well be willing to mislead with economic statistics. And it is willing to gaslight anyone who points it out as a “liar.”

There's one question every voter should be asking today. And only one:
Why is the best way to get rich in America today selling the dollar short?
Since the end of 2022, shares of Microstrategy have gone from $14 to $258, an 1,700% return. The next closest stock $NVDA isn't even close, +400%. Keep in mind, unlike $NVDA or $MSFT or $TSLA Microstrategy doesn't build anything. It's legacy software business is in terminal decline. The ONLY thing Microstrategy does is sell short the U.S. dollar to buy Bitcoin. And, there's no better business in the entire world.
How is it that in America, the very best business in the country for the last four years (since August of 2020) has been selling America short? Why is America's best business predicated on the utter destruction of our currency? Why is America's best entrepreneur the man who figured out how to sell America short the most?
Strange, I'm pretty sure not one person in the media asked the candidates any of these questions. So, let that sink in, America: You've been so completely shit-canned and sold down the river to every bullshit special interest group in the world, from the corrupt Ukraines to the prison wardens of Venezuela, that the NUMBER ONE surest bet in the entire world of finance is selling the dollar and buying the only currency our kleptocrats can't steal - Bitcoin!
How completely fucked-up is that? That's what American politics will get you, where everyone who continues to votes for more government (now 40% of GDP) doesn't have to pay for any of it. Brilliant. I'm sure that's going to work out just fine.
Remember in the early 1900s, JP Morgan famously said he'd never sell American short. Well, times have changed. The government was only 4% of GDP then and women (childless, with cats) couldn't vote.
If you're looking for the perfect metaphor for the Biden-Harris presidency, look no further than Microstrategy. Just like Biden, this company figured out how to fuck Americans better than anyone else ever thought possible.
Every single politician who is responsible for the absurd performance of our dollar -- the world's reserve currency! -- should resign in absolute disgrace.
I don't fault Michael Saylor for his brilliance.
I fault the damn crooks who run our country and who have made SHORTING our country the best business in the world.
Where did your wages go? Don't ask Michael Saylor. It's too late. He was trying to throw you a rope. You wouldn't listen. And he did his job: he saved all of his shareholders.
The folks drowning today are the poor slobs who believed the lies of our politicians when they told us: "we are all in this together" -- remember those assholes? What a bunch of bums. And they're all going back to Washington -- to "serve us" some more. They are such complete worthless turds that they've made the best business in America the company that figured out how to short sell America the best.
Go vote for them. You might as well rollover and piss yourself while you're at it. When are you going to realize that voting is a con and you're nothing but a slave.
Someone in the media -- @TuckerCarlson, @BuckSexton -- please ask Trump about this issue.
What will Trump's legacy be? Will he help turn real businesses into winners for America again? Or will shorting our country because the only path to wealth left to Americans?
If America's economy worked, shorting our currency would be the path to the poor house, not the surest course to endless wealth.
And, if you want to know what you should do about this, you should have bought the Microstrategy convertible bond in the fall of '22, like we recommended to our subscribers.
You'd be up about 10x your money and you'd be long Bitcoin. You and your family would be safe.
Instead, you're about to lose the rest of your savings to their "all in it together" plans.
So, if you actually want to know what you can actually do to protect yourself from the criminal class (voting won't help), please watch my interview with economist Peter St. Onge.
In this interview, I'll explain the #1 stock to own to protect yourself against the ongoing destruction of the U.S. dollar.
And, yep, I know what I'm talking about:

My thoughts on @BobKnakal in a very, very long thread…
If it’s true that @BobKnakal was terminated for shining too brightly ahead of the @JLL brand, this is a prominent display of what is happening in CRE brokerage and why every brokerage and broker should pay attention…

Most property owners have a very good sense of what their property is worth, and when it comes time to sell, they're happy with a fair market price.
But then it hits the market overpriced, and just sits there.
Here's why that often happens:
