51% of Jewish teachers - many of them NEU members - experienced antisemitism in school in the past year. Fixing this starts with defining the problem. IHRA spotlights the insidious and often subtle nature of antisemitism. It doesn't stifle criticism of the government of Israel.

We welcome confirmation today from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) that, following our formal complaint, it has written to the Green Party to establish the facts surrounding its “Zionism is racism” motion and its practical implications. The EHRC has also acknowledged the vulnerability many Jewish people may be feeling following the motion. Antisemitism and discrimination have no place in British politics. We welcome the EHRC taking our concerns seriously and look forward to its further consideration of this matter. Mike Tapp MP & Mark Sewards MP

Following the complaint submitted by myself, Mark Sewards and colleagues to the EHRC, I’m pleased to see this progress: A spokesperson for the commission said: "We have received complaints alleging unlawful activity under the Equality Act 2010, including concerns that Jewish people could face discrimination because of their beliefs following the adoption of the motion." The spokesperson said they are assessing the complaints and will "take action where appropriate".
🚨 NEW: The Equality and Human Rights Commission has written to the Green Party about its "Zionism is racism" policy to "assess its practical implications and potential impact". The watchdog said it has "received complaints alleging unlawful activity". news.sky.com/story/politics-…

I was 8 years old when the Aberfan disaster happened. So were many of the children who died. I've been able to live, to love, to work as a surgeon and now as an MP. What lives might they have led? Hearing the Lewis Merthyr Band in Parliament this evening was heartbreaking. We will never forget them. – at London, England

Thank you to @MarkJSewards for rightly calling out the unjustified Argentine intimidation of businesses engaged in the Falkland Islands Sea Lion oil project. A robust response from UK Prime Minister, @andyburnham, in defence of the Falklands and the Sea Lion project. 🇫🇰🇬🇧

Today we remember all those murdered by Hamas terrorists on 7 October 23 & taken hostage. I think especially of all who lost loved ones, including in Britain. We stand with the Israeli people & Jews worldwide on the anniversary of this horrific attack. xitter.cf/andyburnham/status/210…
Three years on from the October 7 attacks on Israel, we remember those who were senselessly killed by Hamas terrorists. The impact of the attacks has been felt not just in Israel, but in Jewish communities across the world who still bear the burden of the tragic events that day. In the years since, we have seen a disturbing rise in antisemitic behaviour in the UK. A year ago we witnessed a horrifying terrorist attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester, with further attacks against Jewish people and institutions since. I want Britain’s Jewish community to hear this from me directly. We stand with you. Abuse and violence against you, in any form, will not be tolerated. Not on our streets, not online, not in our schools or universities. That’s why we are funding protection for synagogues, schools and community buildings, and why we will come down hard on antisemitism wherever it is found - in classrooms, on campuses and in neighbourhoods. At home, we are committed to protecting our citizens from vile hatred. Abroad, we continue to work towards a two-state solution, with Israelis and Palestinians living side by side in peace and security. An attack on Jewish people in Britain is an attack on all of us. Antisemitism has no place in this country, and we will do everything we can to stamp it out.

It was a privilege to meet His Excellency @Swelamiat, Ambassador of Egypt to the UK, alongside @markjsewards and @GordonMcKeeMP - fellow members of CGP's recent delegation to Egypt. Egypt sits at the centre of some of the region's most pressing challenges: the world's largest Sudanese refugee population, Red Sea shipping disruption, and a crucial role in regional stability. Discussions focused on how we deepen this relationship - from humanitarian response to economic growth and regional security. 🇪🇬🇬🇧

Contrary to the opinion of some people, Falkland Islanders have the right to self-determination, which is a fundamental right enshrined in article one of the @UN Charter. The only people who can decide the future of the Falklands are the Falkland Islanders themselves. 🇫🇰🇬🇧
