When someone pretends to be a U.S. military veteran, we call it “stolen valor.”
So what do we call a politician who claims his father was an immigrant — when his father was actually born in Sacramento?
Stolen heritage.
Xavier Becerra has repeatedly called himself the son of immigrants. His mother immigrated from Mexico, but his father was born in California.
Becerra is defending his description, arguing that his father's experiences crossing the border and facing discrimination are part of the immigrant story.
Could this become Becerra's Francesca Hong moment?
Hong's controversial past statements became campaign ammunition before she lost Wisconsin's Democratic gubernatorial primary.
Now Becerra faces questions about his own words just weeks before Election Day.
Sometimes it isn't a scandal that damages a campaign.
It's a politician's own lies.

WATCH: Fishback (I-DC) says that he lived in DC from June to September.
But also, he never lived in DC.
But also, he lived in DC for most of 2020.
But also, he has never lived in DC.
But also, he wrote an email in which he said "I live in DC now" and admitted that the email was "absolutely true."
But also, he has definitely never lived in DC.
Oof.

I just reviewed Fishbeck’s Exhibit list for tomorrow’s hearing with attached exhibits. 334 pages.
Email from Fishbeck to a student dated SEPTEMBER 18, 2020:
“I was raised in South Florida and live in DC NOW”
That’s an ADMISSION.
Game Over.

The subtext of this post is that Newsom is legitimately concerned his gerrymandered map could be struck down in court. Under the Constitution, partisan redistricting is allowed but racial redistricting is not – and the guy who drew Newsom's map is on the record saying the latter was his first priority.
I don't want to get anyone's hopes up – I'm still operating on the assumption that the Prop. 50 map will be used next year – but the fact that Newsom's team feels the need to try to sway the court is notable.

Texas followed the Constitution. California broke it.
When the Fifth Circuit ruled coalition minority-majority districts unconstitutional, Texas lawfully corrected its maps. Meanwhile, Newsom violated the CA Constitution five times to even put #Prop50 on the ballot.

📚 The Definitive Case for Voting Early:
🧮 It’s Math
We cannot catch up in one day when they have been voting for 30 days.
⏰ Election Day is Too Late
Problems always arise that prevent people from voting. (Examples: Half a million people didn’t cast a ballot in 2016 due to long lines or problems at the polls; Gascon made it through the 2020 primary due to long lines; Arizona ran out of ink in 2022)
🌊 Early Momentum Drives Overall Turnout
Early momentum creates enthusiasm, which drives low propensity voter turnout. When high propensity voters wait too long to vote, this momentum has no time to build the impact on the low propensity voters.
💰Conserves & Concentrates Resources
Voters who intend to vote but wait drain “get out the vote” resources that could be spent on driving a low propensity voter to vote. Wasting resources suppresses the potential of the overall result.
🔥Mail Ballots Build A Firewall
Analysts can predict how many early ballots are needed going in to Election Day to win. This is how they flipped for Trump in Pennsylvania in 2024.
🗣️You Can’t Help Until You’ve Voted
You can’t credibly convince someone to vote if you haven’t voted yourself. Tried it. We sound ridiculous.
🦹 Early Voting Safeguards Against Fraud
Once you vote, no one can vote in your name.
🩹Lost or Problem Ballots Can Be Cured
With ballot tracking, problems and anomalies can be detected sooner and can be fixed well before Election Day. If your ballot gets lost, you still have time to go in person and vote with a provisional ballot.
⏳Running Out The Clock On Purpose Is a Losing Strategy
The argument that we shouldn’t “tip off the Dems” before Election Day is a proven losing strategy by 6 election cycles. On the other hand, Too Big To Rig wins.
Changing anything about our election system requires us to win first. In order to win, we need to play by the rules as they exist, not by the rules we think should exist.
No on 50, by mail, asap.
