Stewart is a screen presence I have loved my whole life but my first thought on hearing the news was the image of Kevin Feige sweating bullets as he sits on an Avengers movie where they are Definitely Killing Professor X For Shock Value for the 4th or 5th time

Patrick Stewart was already one of the great screen actors by the time Jean-Luc Picard and Charles Xavier made him immortal. He brought grandeur and dignity to ambitious schemers and faithful retainers alike, transforming every set into a proscenium. Colossal.

Stewart lived a full life but this hurts. A living monument to the joy of bringing high art to the low, and gave each role the gravitas and sensitivity as if he were playing Macbeth. An actor and human being to imitate –– make it so. Rest in peace.
Rest in Peace Sir Patrick Stewart. Gone but forever in our hearts and on the pod with his numerous roles spanning from the X-Men and Star Trek franchises to Lynch’s Dune and Excalibur.

october’s free column is on something that’s been on my mind for a few months now: it seems like a common thread thru many of the year’s biggest (and smallest) films is that they treat performance as a spectacle no less momentous than CG explosions api.omarshehata.me/substack-…
Sex, death, monster fucking, cunty costumes, blasphemy, a really bad Keanu Reeve performance, in camera effects, a bombastic score, Gary Oldman’s boob wig, and Monica Bellucci dreams.
