Truly inspiring event watching this 1983 Stuart Hall lecture last night. Great initiative from local activists @JoeBrindle_ and @min_esh to revive the archive footage. Lots of practical and theoretical food for thought.

If you went to know any more about this screening being shown tomorrow, I wrote a piece on this for @Sheffield_Wire just last week. Should be a great event down at @UnionStCowork! Read my article here - sheffieldwire.co.uk/index.ph…

This Thursday 30th March at 6pm we will be screening Stuart Hall's 1983 Marx Memorial Lecture, at @UnionStCowork. We also have (free) postcards for all attendees on Thursday, feeling the original @SheffCouncil design from the original lecture. See you there!

🚨please RT and share widely🚨 Trans rights are under attack from all sides and an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us We are calling a protest to reclaim our streets and bring the fight to the government 12pm, 1st April, Dev Green
On a black background there are the words ‘joy power protest’ in pink and blue in a font that sort of looks like slime(?). Below that in white it reads ‘trans march April 1 meet at dev green 12pm and March to law courts for 2pm’

"[Marx's] ideas just refuse to lie down and die beside him there. They are restless spirits; he talked about a spectre - 𝘩𝘦 is the spectre, haunting the world. And his appearance brings liberal-minded people out with their censorship stamps, ..." (1/2)

Forty years ago today, Sheffield City Council organised a Marx Memorial Lecture to remember the life and works of the great philosopher on the anniversary of his death. We have now obtained a digitised copy of the 1983 lecture, delivered by the incredible Stuart Hall.
Still from video footage of Professor Stuart Hall giving his 1983 Marx Memorial Lecture. Professor Hall is wearing a grey suit jacket, standing in front of two microphones on stands. To his left (right of the photograph) there are some flowers. The background is a beige curtained wall.
