Project Masam مشروع مسام

When people think of #humanitarian mine clearance, they often picture the moment an #explosive item is found and removed. Our work starts much earlier, with survey defining the hazardous area, threat and terrain shaping the methodology, and #demining teams searching systematically to the required depth before land is checked and released for civilian use. #MineAction #EOD

Project Masam has cleared 8,693 improvised #explosive devices in #Yemen since we began our operations in mid-2018. Each #IED represents a concealed explosive threat removed from somewhere civilians may need to live, travel, farm, go to school, or work. #MineAction #ProtectCivilians

Project Masam is calling for urgent survey and clearance, the disclosure of #Houthi minefield maps and coordinates, and accountability for #explosive devices that place civilians at risk. "We are clearing what we can, where we can, but every newly contaminated area means more land to survey, more roads and communities to make safe, and more families forced to wait before they can return home or move freely." - @AlgosaibiOusama, MD, Project Masam Read more: tinyurl.com/m3teme7z #MineAction

#Explosive violence, shifting frontlines and #landmines are deepening #Yemen’s #maternity crisis. More than 13,000 pregnant women are currently unable to access maternal health services, while only 5 of 27 emergency maternal and newborn care hospitals remain even partially functioning, @UNFPAYemen has warned.

#Landmines do not only threaten roads or remote areas. In #Yemen, they can be found between homes, behind residential buildings, in courtyards and on the paths families use every day, cutting entire communities off from safe movement even within their own neighbourhoods. Project Masam clears these areas so families can move more safely around the places they live. #Humanitarian #MineAction

#Explosive contamination can isolate an entire community long after fighting moves elsewhere. In #Yemen, 3.2 million children are already out of school, while renewed #conflict has recently disrupted 243 schools affecting more than 137,000 students, @UNICEF_Yemen says. #Landmines and IEDs create another barrier to education, #healthcare, food and water. #MineAction

Every metre of land cleared by Project Masam is land that can be returned to Yemen’s #war-affected communities, for families to move safely, #farmers to work, and communities to rebuild their lives. Since 2018, our work has transformed contaminated land into safer ground across #Yemen. #SaudiNationalDay2026
