Pet Peeve: Hitter takes Strike 1. Should have swung at it. Instead: Nods head yes to umpires strike call. #PleaseStop

It is tournament weekend, and most families have the coach's attention backwards. Parents film the home run. They film the diving catch. They post the highlight. A college coach at that same game is watching the at-bat after the strikeout. The walk back to the dugout after the error. The body language in the eighth inning of a long day. They are not buying the best moment. They are buying the worst one and how your son answered it. The tournament does not evaluate the play. It evaluates the player between the plays.

When I was struggling with TIMING, I asked Dusty Baker what I needed to do to get on-time. He told me 1 thing: “When the pitcher shows his back pocket… you show your back pocket.” That simple cue helped sync my load with the pitcher instead of rushing forward. Next at-bat: line drive in the gap.

It happened again. An 11-year-old threw more than 160 pitches over a weekend because adults decided winning mattered more than arm care. #Youth baseball has a responsibility to protect kids — not sacrifice their future for Sunday trophies. philadelphiabaseballreview.c…

So many travel coaches say: “We had to push this kid extra pitches because we didn’t have enough arms for the tournament.” Then maybe don’t enter the tournament! If your roster can’t survive a weekend without blowing out arms, your team isn’t ready. Period.

High school teams play 3 single games a week… Then summer tournaments hit— 6 games in 3 days. Sometimes 3 in one day. And we wonder why arms break down? Makes no sense… But yes I know it’s about $$$.

Went to a HS game yesterday. Had a D1 coach come meet me there to watch a kid. During the game, the team’s catcher would sprint to his position every inning. He’s an underclassman, the D1 coach wasn’t there for him, he is now on that coaches radar. Some things preached at every level - ▪️sprint to your spot between innings ▪️show off your arm in between innings ▪️serious throws in the INF/OF and as a catcher You can be 0-3 and still make an impression

Most players don’t actually have confidence. They have momentum. They feel good when they’re 2-for-3. They feel locked in after two clean innings. They feel tough when things are going right. That’s not confidence. That’s rhythm. Real confidence doesn’t disappear after one mistake. It doesn’t vanish after an 0-for-4. It doesn’t crack after one bad inning. Because it isn’t built on results. It’s built on preparation memory. College players trust the reps they’ve already survived. The bullpens they’ve already finished. The mistakes they’ve already handled. So when failure shows up… it doesn’t feel new. High school confidence is emotional. College confidence is rehearsed. If your belief disappears with results, you don’t have confidence. You have momentum. Built at 15. Proven at 20. Routine Over Flash. #3LeftsBaseball #BaseballIQ

Why are there baseball tournaments in January? January should be build-up. Instead it’s max effort, cold bodies, tired arms, and bad decisions. This can’t seriously be considered smart development. And parents buy into this?

Once both dugouts spend 7 innings chirping—players, coaches, even parents—the respect is already gone. Lining up afterward doesn’t undo it. It just checks a box. Sportsmanship isn’t postgame. It’s how you act during the game.

A lot of high school players in the Northeast seriously underestimate NAIA baseball. There are NAIA programs that would beat a lot of D2 teams and compete just fine with mid-level D1s. If you can play, you can play!

High school baseball is different. It’s about pride. Your school. Your teammates. Your town. The logo on your chest. It’s about community, brotherhood, and meaning. Play for something bigger.

Bringing energy doesn’t mean hooting and hollering from the dugout. Bringing energy means being intense from the second you show up for pregame til the game is over. Every rep. Every round of BP. Every pitch. No matter the score. You have to commit yourself to that mindset.
