Toluwanisings Never Called Me, Neither Did He Take Care of Me But I Will Not Allow Them To Bury Him Beside His Late Mother. He Must Be Buried In The House He Built — Singer’s Grandmother
The paternal grandmother of late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings has spoken about their strained relationship, revealing that he rarely kept in touch with her despite her family’s efforts to care for his mother.
Speaking during an interview with Dumininu, she claimed that the singer never gave her money apart from three occasions when he reportedly sent ₦10,000 after she complained about his failure to visit her.
“We took care of his mother very well like our own but Toluwanisings doesn’t call me then and even when I want to call people will advise me not to. I Didn’t even know he has built a house. I just even knew of recent that he is a popular Christian singer”
When asked what he did for her as his grandmother, she said:
“He never gives me money at all even one kobo. It’s even one girl around one time ago that I gave his number to help me call him so that I can even hear his voice and he will just greet me and all. Even when I complained he doesn’t come to see me he will be like oh mummy ‘i have been very busy with work’ and after that he only sent 10 thousand just like three times and that was it”
When asked if he contributed to her well being she stated; “He doesn’t even get medicine for me and anything. But when I heard about his d+ath I was very touched and it’s a deep sorrow for me even though he doesn’t do anything for me.”
Speaking about his burial, the grandmother insisted that the late singer should be laid to rest in the house he built rather than beside his late mother’s grave.
“It is my wish for him to be buried inside the house he built, they should not come and put him beside his mother grave at all, I will not allow it.”

I spent two hours listening to the podcast "And the Writer Is" featuring @jonbellion.
I was surprised that, in spite of the social media-driven culture of short attention spans, I gave two hours of uninterrupted time to it. My phone wasn’t even with me as I watched.
What held my attention was the level of authenticity that Jon brought to the podcast, and that resonated with me.
Here are some of the highlights:
𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁
Jon paid for his latest album project – he was both record label and publisher. He did so to retain control and to pass on a bigger share of the royalties to his co-writers than they would ordinarily get from bigger labels.
According to Jon, he was tired of complaining about how songwriters are treated by labels and decided to put his money where his mouth is.
𝗕𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲
I liked that Jon admitted he had underestimated what labels bring to the table, and that he would probably end up losing money on the project. But the flip side was that he might learn a better way for labels to make money. He was willing to pay the price for innovation.
He also gave credit to the stars who take the brunt of public adulation while making music popular. They give up their privacy while songwriters earn royalties and get to live a quiet life.
𝗗𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴
Jon chose to shoot a video in Iceland, paying for the crew to fly there.
He said he could have used AI, but at some point, there is fulfilment and meaning in actually getting your hands dirty and doing hard work – just because.
Fans can tell when an artist is authentic, and will reward that.
𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀
Jon chose to pre-release some videos via direct file sharing with his fans, sacrificing online engagement in doing so.
But he said that, at the end of the day, the social media algorithm only reaches 2% of his online audience anyway. So, he’ll reach more people by just using his mailing list of real fans.
I feel like that is Substack’s advantage over other social media. You get to talk with people who engage with your stuff directly.
𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀
According to Jon, he does better work when he’s in a room full of other brilliant creators. There’s an exponential creativity that’s unleashed, with everyone bringing something of value to the table.
𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗢𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀
I think what ultimately got to me while watching the podcast was this – work on things that truly matter, not just the daily drudge of mindless activities.
Do something you truly care about and will sacrifice for.

Show up Ke! I remember when macaroni wanted to sue me, he told me point blank that the party do not send us that. It was @AtoyebiPaulB that got me one the best lawyers that came to my rescue.
lol
Who can find this man for me? He will do jail, simple.
Under no circumstance whatsoever should a man put his hands on a woman or physically assault her in public. It is disgusting and unacceptable.
In sane and developed countries, stringently enforced laws and serious legal rights protect women from this exact kind of barbaric behavior
This is precisely why many Nigerian men who travel abroad quickly end up behind bars.
If a disagreement arise, you walk away like a real man.
He's a coward.

For real, men of this generation are not it at all.
I met this man at the supermarket. He said I was beautiful, I thanked him, and we went our separate ways. Later, I saw him watching me at the counter as I paid for everything I got. He watched and said nothing, he paid for his own items, and left.
Only for me to start heading home and this same man rushed up to ask for my number after watching me pay for everything.
I’m not saying he should have paid, but he could have at least made an attempt. I would have been the one to say, “No, it’s fine” It was a simple test, and he failed woefully. These men are not it.
I enjoyed reading this. So inspiring and insightful. Congratulations!
It’s been a month into my PhD program @westernsydneyu
Incredibly grateful to God for the journey and moments that brought me here.
I also penned a little of that journey into words - If you’d like to read the story: torotayo.substack.com/p/what…

I posted that my company is hiring , and people started reaching out.
One particular person had no display picture. Nothing.
I asked for her name. She gave it to me.
I asked if they reside in Lagos. She said yes.
Then I asked her to send me a picture because I could not see her display picture.
Her response? “Oh, this is weird. Bye.”
😂😂😂
Wait, what?
You are looking for a job, and a recruiter asks you for basic information, and your response is to walk away?
Some of you are not ready for the opportunities you claim to want.
Professionalism starts before you get the job. Your attitude during the recruitment process says a lot about you.

i started experiencing inner peace when i realised that the work never ends, in every aspect of life. There’s no amount of work you do today that exempts you from the work due tomorrow.
So do your best, but also remember to pace yourself.

Once you’ve done what you do for 5 years at least and you know what your stuff, you qualify to earn over 1million Naira from that job.
Do not let anyone price you down all in the name of YOE.
