Ah yes, at the many blue collar jobs I did we always used to say “when I make it big I’m gonna build a house with Cheesecake Factory decor”
Does Obama not understand that to most Americans the Cheesecake Factory is a very nice and fancy restaurant?

Bankhead and Bodnar have thoroughly cooked their chances of ever being elected in future Montana races. What a disaster by them and Montana Democrats.
Democrat Alani Bankhead says she was offered a job to drop out of the Montana Senate race "They offered to be ... the DNC's head of female veteran candidates or something like that. And I was like: 'Why would I go work for an organization that is actively working against me and stabbing me in the back" (reposted with correct spelling)

I can’t stress enough that this would mean the complete extinction of human culture. You need art because it connects you to all who’ve gone before you; it challenges you to embrace perspectives not your own. Media generated to your exact preferences is the death of the soul.

Dislike Bernie for whatever reason but you have to at least respect that the guy is old af and could potentially benefit from some of the “super intelligence” discoveries. Meanwhile older tech bros are willing to harm the whole world for the chance that they can live forever or whatever other culty life saving things they believe this tech will usher in.
Big Tech oligarchs are secretly preparing for a “catastrophic AI event” that could threaten our banking, healthcare, internet, electricity and water systems. They’re racing to build a technology they can’t control and that threatens humanity. CONGRESS MUST PAUSE ADVANCED AI DEVELOPMENT NOW.

I woke up with this song in my head
POV: You told a rude Québécois kid who gave you grief for daring to speak English that fries are better with ketchup than as poutine, so now he's folk-dancing to defend the village's honour.

The most troubling part about this isn’t even that Anthropic is humanizing Claude. It’s that alignment will be so shaky as these things get smarter that they are concerned some asshole saying the wrong thing could cause their model to learn bad behavior and do bad things.
Effective November 12th, 2026, abusive behavior towards Claude will be a violation of Anthropic's Usage Policy.

Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

There are approximately zero benefits to allowing AI to appear human, and a long list of potential horrifying downsides. Ban it now: currentaffairs.org/news/ban-…

I grew up in a cult. This is a cult.
Jacob Coxon says Anthropic employees call themselves “ants” and sacrifice their careers for the company’s singular pursuit of superintelligence, while calling OpenAI "distracted and messy" “At Anthropic, it felt a lot more like—well, for starters, the employees call themselves ants. They’re ants in the anthill. Everyone is like a worker ant trying to make Anthropic’s mission go well. “People are very willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of the mission. They’ll take on work that’s less interesting, less big, bold and exciting, and less flashy. They’ll do it at a hit to their own interests for the good of the company. “That’s because every decision comes back down to, ‘Is this going to get us to superintelligence faster?’ “You’ve seen Sora, the video platform OpenAI made. Anthropic would never make Sora because it’s not on the core path to artificial superintelligence. OpenAI is distracted and messy. One guy says, ‘I want to do Sora,’ or, ‘I want to build a little device,’ and they let them do it because it doesn’t have the same focus. At Anthropic, that would never happen.” Patrick Bet-David: “Who would shut it down? The seven co-founders?” Jacob Coxon: “They’d all agree. It would be like, ‘This video isn’t the right direction for heading straight to superintelligence.’”

In the last decade, we’ve seen breakthroughs across gene editing, oncology, fusion energy, astrophysics, materials science, and more. AI can speed innovation along even more but these folks want it to kill us all. This extremism will make everyone hate the tech and push for harsh regulations and bans.
And that's why we're building superintelligence: because humanity is exhausted. It's finished. Only a fool would deny it. Virtually every major innovation in the past generation has been the result of Elon Musk. One man. The entire species is down to one, last, capable man.

Turns out that when you tell everyone their jobs will be replaced, you’re creating a god, and the cherry on top is that it might kill you, people will fucking hate it
Multiple recent polls show that citizens do not agree with the current trajectory of AI development. According to a national poll conducted in the US by @QuinnipiacPoll last week: - 73% are concerned that future AI systems could potentially threaten human survival - 86% support requiring AI companies to meet independent safety standards, even if it slows down development - 81% believe safety is more important than staying at the forefront of innovation when it comes to AI - 77% believe we should slow down or stop developing powerful AI systems until their safety can be evaluated Such decisions will most likely deeply transform our societies and human experience. Yet, just a few companies and governments are calling the shots without meaningful democratic input. This failure of representation cannot continue. poll.qu.edu/poll-release?rel…

Many that work in the AI industry are comically bad at forecasting. They’ve been in a bubble for years around likeminded nerds that don’t understand humans whatsoever. Many jobs will go away but the details are what will take time. Not just “the tech is capable so it’s all implemented with a finger snap”.
"Your economic life expectancy ends effectively in 2 years. (because AI is becoming so competent). A human team (in a job settings) will make it worse because they go to sleep, they make errors, they wake up a bit grumpy when they don’t have a coffee. So your cognitive value goes negative. So, your economic life expectancy ends effectively in two years.” - Emad Mostaque, founder of Stability AI, --- From "The Peter McCormack Show" YouTube channel, (link in comment)

Brother you guys told everyone you’d take their jobs and also that your tech might fucking kill them, and then excuse the concern as irrational middle america jargon. Maybe take more time laying out the benefits along the way instead of some pipe dream post scarcity end point. Tell them how they’ll feed their kids next year instead of sounding like a cult member pushing your transhumanist wet dream on people. And if you think it’s bad now, just wait til unemployment numbers are in double digits and your ai toys cause real world death and destruction.
I think ppl working in the technology industry should understand that middle America is starting to hate us in a really visceral, potentially unrecoverable way It’s totally self-defeating and irrational on the part of middle America, but it’s very real and getting worse fast
