The temptation to leave tech and run away to some charity in the countryside doing good for the world increases evermore each day.
I really hope macOS 27.1 (or 27.0.2) comes out soon with some WindowServer fixes. Having full-screen applications currently is so incredibly buggy in 27.0.1, and it's driving me nuts. After a restart, everything is okay for a few hours, and then it becomes buggy again.
Much as I find AI a great tool, I have to agree with James that software dev, especially open-source, seems to be going in a bad direction. Reviewing AI-generated diffs in open-source and at work as the way to build software now is really starting to feel like a chore, not fun.
Open source was the best thing that ever happened to me.
This year I watched it start to die, and I am so incredibly sad about it.

Maybe this is burnout speaking, but I’m becoming quite disenchanted with what feels like growing fragmentation of the JS ecosystem with new registries and tool chains continually, and the increasing number of projects trying to be one solution to everything, even beyond JS.
Very happy to see that @digitalocean has been engaging with @nodejs to make sure they’re still covered following the initial email that the program was ending. Hopefully they’re reaching out to other projects as well to provide further ongoing support.
Looks like @digitalocean is killing their Open Source Credits Program. Very disappointing to see, but unsurprising given they’d already killed their GitHub Students credits a few months ago. I miss the days when they focused on their community goodwill efforts.

Very pleased to see that @MLHacks + @ThePracticalDev are running Hacktoberfest now, both trusted orgs in the community space!
We're back for Hacktoberfest 2026!
This year, we're not counting PRs. Instead, we’re hosting 300+ in-person “Fests” and an online event all about building with open-source and open-weight AI.
Learn more and see how you can get involved.

See it. Say it. Sorted. 🤝 Patching security issues during an incident at midnight is my favourite kind of engineering.

hot take: work for people, not companies. ive watched candidates turn down bigger titles and higher salaries because they met the manager and thought, i want to work for this person. theyre almost always happier
Not being able to do any work all day because GitHub Actions has been completely down is great. Custom runners on GitHub are cool, but maybe self-hosted GitHub Enterprise Server should be back in fashion?

We moved cdnjs, serving 9 billion requests a day, entirely onto Cloudflare's Developer Platform. Find out how we did it and let us know if you're using cdnjs? cfl.re/4wusmp0
Managed to find a UI in the dashboard that still lets me see the usage, and we've had the lowest usage this month for a year. Feels like @algolia has silently changed the limit on their open-source sponsorship?
So our shower has sewage back-flowing into it whenever the toilet is flushed. Not great. Got a plumber out five months ago, who recommended a new soil stack. Went to management for permission… have been arguing with them about it since. All while sewage comes out of the shower.
Well, that's fun... If someone opens a PR `main` on a fork, @vercel does not know how to handle it and will not let you redeploy commits from that PR, as it tries to find the SHAs from the commit on the repo's `main` branch instead of the fork's `main`...
I am once again here to ask package maintainers to actually follow semver and land breaking changes in behavior or API as a major release. That is all, thank you.
