I stopped trusting random men at age 7 when I was flashed by a man.
By age 20 I had suffered several sexual assaults in public, rape and CSA, all by men.
In my 30s I was again subject to rape and DV, including a gang rape. All by men.
I don't give the tiniest shit how any one of those men 'identified'.

This is the man who hounded @RosieDuffield1 for a couple of years over liking a tweet
He is a full on TRA who thinks women’s rights are secondary to men’s fantasies and fetish
He was a crony of Sir Keir and gifted a safe seat for services to misogyny

Interestingly, in the 60s what's now called "bottom surgery" was called "conversion surgery". In his influential book The Transsexual Phenomenon (1966) Harry Benjamin says the biggest motive for "conversion surgery" was becoming a straight woman instead of a gay man ⬇️
It can take years to recover sufficiently from a rape to even begin to consider telling another human being.
After the initial numbness, a lot of women go into denial.
Trying to carry on as though it didn't happen. Trying to avoid blowing up our entire lives, like our inner selves which have been shattered. Trying not to let the emotions out that are tearing you apart, so the kids don't see you crumple.
Some of us go through a trauma spiral, compounding that rape with further abuses; some become addicts in an attempt to self soothe. All attempts to escape the pain that we are feeling.
The emotion needed to report rape is anger. Anger at the rapist, not ourselves. To feel that, a woman needs to overcome the shame, self-blame and fear. Not an easy task for some of us, especially if it isn't our first rodeo.
Once you report?
You will lose 'friends', family, people who you thought you could rely upon to be impartial.
You will be judged for every sexual encounter, outfit, belief or flaw you've ever had. Both before, after and at the time of the rape.
You will not be a perfect victim. They don't exist.
People will choose to believe your rapist. Even if you told the Dr at the time. Even if he admitted it to a wide variety of professionals over an extended time. Even if you had a child as a result. They just like him. Women lie.
The police will warn you of the appalling success rate for rape cases, especially where the men are charming and the women are barely coherent. They will talk to you about juries made up of a society which blames victims for being raped. They will tell you all of the people they will be discussing your rape with. The most traumatic experience of your life becomes an open topic for discussion and doubt. They will check you are fit to cope with several years waiting for justice.
There are many reasons why women don't/can't report. Each is different, but do consider how X users have responded to this as a clue.
In light of Russell Brand's conviction, we need to ask an uncomfortable question: Why do so few women report rape?
• 80,829 criminal cases stuck in the Crown Court backlog.
• 16,089 outstanding sexual offence cases.
• 26% increase in outstanding rape cases in just one year.
• 438 days — median police investigation time for rape cases resulting in a charge.
• 365 days — median time from charge to completion for adult rape cases.
• 499 days — average wait for an adult rape trial where the defendant isn't remanded in custody.
• 1 in 3 rape trials postponed at least once in 2024, compared with around 1 in 10 in 2015.
And what happens to the victims?
• 85.3% of victims of rape or assault by penetration did NOT report the most recent incident to police.
• 38.5% of non-reporting victims who told someone believed the police couldn't help.
• 35.3% cited embarrassment.
• 30.5% expected humiliation.
• 24.4% feared police wouldn't believe them.
• Around 55% of victims in the ONS reporting analysis were assaulted by a partner or former partner.
And what happens when they do report?
• Only around 8% of adult rape investigations result in a charge.
• 69% of adult rape complainants in a London study withdrew before a charging decision.
• 71,540 rapes recorded by police in 2024/25.
• Just 2,623 rape convictions recorded that year (not necessarily relating to the same offences).
And how did we get here?
• Courts and tribunals spending cut 23.3% in real terms between 2010/11 and 2017/18.
• 31% fewer criminal legal aid solicitors between 2014/15 and 2023/24.
• Crown Court backlog more than doubled, from 38,341 cases in December 2019 to 80,829 in June 2026.
Successive Conservative-led governments cut funding and capacity from the justice system. Labour inherited the consequences, but now has responsibility for fixing them.
And behind every statistic is a human being.
Someone who may have spent years trying to find the courage to speak up, only to face an investigation lasting months, a trial years away, the prospect of being cross-examined, and the possibility of having to relive everything again if that trial is postponed.
Not reporting rape doesn't mean it didn't happen. Withdrawing a complaint doesn't mean an allegation was false.
We keep asking why so few women come forward.
Perhaps we should be asking why we've created a system in which coming forward can mean years of uncertainty, humiliation and trauma, with so little prospect of justice.
And how many perpetrators have been able to continue abusing others because victims had every reason to believe the system would fail them?
Sources: ONS, Ministry of Justice, Home Office, Rape Crisis England & Wales, Institute for Government and London's Victims' Commissioner. Statistics cover different populations and reporting periods.
If you can survive X as a rape victim, you can survive anything.
Much love to my fellow warriors.
Look after yourselves. ❤️❤️❤️

Most grateful for your view on this one @Humanists_UK
1/ Humanists UK believe they've conducted a "fact check" on a Telegraph piece in which a mother of a trans identifying daughter sets out her fears of the conversion bill.
I intend to defend the mother and her well justified fears in this thread.

“We will not be frightened into silence.”
A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening to murder the Darlington nurses and “whoever doesn’t support trans rights”.
The email identified Darlington Memorial Hospital and included an image of a large knife.
Three nurses had to be escorted from their workplace by security, and all seven have remained unable to return to work.
Despite the seriousness of the threat, police forces spent days passing responsibility between one another.
North Yorkshire Police acted only after media intervention.
Bethany Hutchison, President of the Darlington Nursing Union, said:
“We are relieved but deeply shocked that the police took so long to take action on this, and only did after the media contacted them.
“This is not merely offensive online abuse. It is a specific and terrifying threat against a group of identifiable women at a named location which included an image of a large knife. Three of our nurses had to be escorted from their workplace by security, and seven nurses have been unable to return to their jobs.
“We reported the threat immediately and supplied the police with the correspondence. Yet days later, we were left facing uncertainty while police forces passed responsibility between one another.
"Other police forces must take note, especially as White Ribbon Day approaches, and many of these forces have firm commitments to ending violence against women and girls. Protecting us needs to be more than a slogan.
“The apparent trigger for this abuse was that we thanked J.K. Rowling for supporting us after our successful campaign for lawful single-sex changing facilities. Whatever a person’s beliefs, threatening to murder women because they uphold biological reality is utterly unacceptable.
“We will not be frightened into silence. We fought for three years for dignity, privacy and safety at work, and we will not surrender those principles to intimidation or violence.
“To women watching this unfold, our message is simple: stand together, speak the truth and do not allow threats to drive you out of public life. We remain unbowed.”
The suspect has been released on bail with conditions prohibiting him from approaching the hospital or the nurses.
The investigation continues.

I hear a panicky post like this from a Committee charged with conducting pre-legislative scrutiny is pretty much unprecedented.
Will someone please give this Committee a face-saving way of gracefully announcing that this draft Bill turned out to be incompatible with freedom of expression, human rights law, and the democratic foundations of society and will have to be withdrawn?

Rape convictions for historical crimes, like Russell Brand's, have drawn out the men who know they raped women in the past, perhaps as students, when they were younger. They now have families, but on one level are shaking in their boots about their victims coming after them.

Dr David Bell said that if the law had been in place, it could have been used to threaten and “possibly… silence” those who raised the alarm about the gender identity clinic, which was prescribing puberty blockers to children as young as 10.

So glad @Telegraph are coming at this bill from every angle. I hadn’t considered the impact on detransitioners - that simply sharing their experiences will be criminalised. She’s been attacked endlessly- now it’ll be criminal charges.
@JournalistJill excellent stuff.

What if a young person who says they're trans simply needs time to work out who they are?
Should the law make those conversations harder?

The PLS committee on the conversion bill must hear from detransitioners.
You cannot say the bill "symmetrically" protects people and then ignore detransitioners caused by many to believe they have an identity.
That is apparently directly within the scope of the bill.
We have now formally written to the Chair and Members of the Conversion Practices Select Committee, asking them to include us in discussions on the Bill and its potential impact on detransitioners and organisations like ours.
Detransitioners must not be overlooked or excluded from decisions that directly affect our lives. Our voices, experiences and perspectives deserve to be heard and represented.
We urge the Committee to recognise the importance of including detransitioner voices and engaging with organisations that support our community.
We will update everyone once we receive a response. In the meantime, please continue to share our message and help raise awareness. The more visible our voices are, the harder they are to ignore.

7/ This means every detransitioners poorly served by gender services, let down by rainbow groups, groomed online or encouraged by reckless parties in principle falls within the wide scope of criminal causation. For this reason, the committee ought to hear from them.

Idle curiosity, but has Stonewall ever been asked why 1989-2015 they never mentioned conversion therapy?
All that banging on about S28, and they never once thought to mention all the exorcisms 🤷♀️

🚨🚨 HAVE YOIR SAY ON THE DRAFT CONVERSION PRACTICES BILL
The Draft Conversion Practices Bill would create new criminal offences around what it calls conversion practices, in words so broad that they could reach ordinary conversations between parents and children, pastoral care and careful, exploratory therapy.
A Joint Committee of Parliament is taking written evidence until 5 pm on Monday 16 November 2026.
