Comments under this are exactly what John Lawson described in his famous "two worlds of obstetrics".
This is how it is in the less fortunate world. Emergencies are experienced by families as sudden, unexplained and terrifying; so they end up filling the void with myths.

That’s the charge for medical interns who dared ask for deployment and fair treatment.
Not thieves. Not killers. Young doctors.

We support our colleagues, and request that the policy is revised.

Uganda’s young doctors have been humiliated 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵!
Medical interns provide essential services to Ugandans, yet in an attempt to evade the moral responsibility of paying them, they are now being conveniently labelled “students.”
@MinofHealthUG, take note of the position of Uganda’s doctors:
𝟭. 𝗨.𝗠.𝗔 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀 until clear, formal communication is issued regarding their allowances and welfare.
𝟮. 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱. We reject any attempt to pay only those who were formerly government-sponsored while abandoning their formerly privately-sponsored colleagues. They hold the same qualifications, perform the same duties and serve the same Ugandan patients.
𝟯. If these concerns remain unresolved, 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗨𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 their 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝟭𝟰 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟲 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁.
𝟰. 𝗔𝗻𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁, 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 or 𝗽𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 for declining to report for "slavery" will trigger immediate industrial action by doctors across Uganda.
To the Ugandan public, please understand this:
𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. They are qualified doctors, nurses and pharmacists undergoing supervised professional apprenticeship while providing healthcare services.
If Government chooses not to resolve this matter fairly, ethically and urgently, disruption of public health services may become unavoidable. We urge @GovUganda to act now, before patients are made to bear the consequences of a preventable crisis.
Service with Honour.

🚨 @NsambyaHospital MUST NOT BE TURNED INTO A BATTLEGROUND FOR INTIMIDATED MEDICAL INTERNS.
We strongly condemn reports that medical interns posted to private hospitals particulary St Francis Nsambya Hospital are being subjected to pressure and intimidation to force them to report.
@NsambyaHospital must not become an instrument for coercing interns into providing labour against their will. This is a serious matter that deserves immediate attention.
Medical interns have not refused to work. They are demanding that the outstanding issues surrounding the NETH policy and their monthly allowance be addressed before they are expected to report and work under the new arrangements.
We therefore urge the Administration of Nsambya Hospital to exercise restraint and caution. Any decision that compels distressed, unpaid or unwilling interns to report without resolving the underlying concerns risks creating an unsafe and unacceptable working environment for both healthcare workers and patients.
We also call upon all medical interns posted to Nsambya to remain calm, stand together and document any intimidation or threats. Any written communication, WhatsApp message, call, or directive intended to force interns to report should be preserved and shared with the leadership of medical Interns.
This is not a refusal to serve Ugandans. It is a demand for fairness, dignity and clear terms of service.
Until the concerns affecting general medical interns are addressed, interns should await clear guidance from their leadership before reporting.
NO INTIMIDATION. NO COERCION. NO FORCED LABOUR.

The government should support all medical interns to transition into registered medical doctors in order to improve service delivery and foreign direct investment (FDI). This is just an investment of one year. Once they get registered, they will either provide services in public and private health facilities in Uganda or they will go abroad and bring in FDI. It is not possible to find a registered medical doctor who is not practicing. So government support of one year i.e. paying medical interns for one year will lead to job creation and improved service delivery. Let us all support this cause. I hope Cabinet reverses that bad ministry of health policy on internship.

Medical interns are junior house officers, not interns students.
Unpaid medical internship is a curse to the young professionals.
Dear Hon. @norbertmao
Kindly attend Cabinet tomorrow and root for your people.
All medical interns deserve the 4m monthly pay (75% of professional pay). It's a fallacy being purpoted that medical interns are students.
There's money to effect this if we treat is as a priority.
