"Ain't Nobody" almost never happened. Rufus initially rejected the song because its unusual drum machine pattern and minimalist arrangement sounded too different from the band's previous material. Keyboardist David "Hawk" Wolinski insisted on keeping it, believing it had the potential to become something special. According to Wolinski, producer Quincy Jones later wanted Michael Jackson to record the song for Thriller but he refused because he believed it belonged to Chaka Khan and Rufus.
Released in 1983 as one of the studio recordings on the live album Stompin' at the Savoy, "Ain't Nobody" became Rufus and Chaka Khan's final hit together. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard R&B chart, No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart. It also won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1984. Its innovative blend of funk, R&B and electronic production helped transform it into a timeless classic that continues to be sampled and covered decades after its release.

It's finally out - ABSOLUTE BATMAN #25!
This is our biggest issue so far, and wraps up the latest story arc from me and Nick Dragotta. HUGE moments in this one, and it'll set the stage for the entire series going forward. Pick it up NOW, and thanks so much for everything.
Damon Wayans says that even at 65 years old, if Keenen tells him to get him a soda, he's going to go get it, because in their family, it’s all about an unspoken code of respect, seniority, and brotherly hierarchy.
“Yeah, but like even now, this is how my family is. Like, I'm 65 years old and Keenen goes, "Go get me a soda," and I got to go get it.”
“If Marlon walks in a room, and you know, if I walk in a room and there's no seats, Marlon gets up. Sean and Keenen will sit, and Marlon will get up and say, "You sit here." And my son will have to do the same thing.”
“That's why I love the fact that they have children. Because I go to my theater sometimes and little Damon's there and Mikey's there, and as soon as I walk in the room, the youngest one gets up and lets me sit down without question, and I love that.”
“It's just how we do with each other. It's just a quiet code. Some things you don't have to teach, it's just what you see.”

⚖️ In 1963, Perry Mason needed surgery. So CBS called Bette Davis.
Raymond Burr went into the hospital that winter, and Perry Mason still had episodes to make. Instead of shutting down, the show brought in big-name guest stars to take over the courtroom.
The first was Bette Davis. In “The Case of Constant Doyle,” which aired January 31, 1963, she played a lawyer defending a teenager accused of murder, with Paul Drake (William Hopper) working the case beside her.
Perry didn’t vanish completely. The writers put him in the hospital too, and he appears briefly by telephone from his room.
Over the next three episodes, Michael Rennie, Hugh O’Brian and Walter Pidgeon also stepped in as the defense attorney.

Goldie Hawn personally chose Eileen Brennan, who stole Private Benjamin.
Almost every major studio rejected it for lacking a male lead, but it made $100M on a $9M budget.
Brennan is the only actor nominated for an Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe for playing the same role.

Happy heavenly birthday to Fannie Lou Hamer! A Mississippi sharecropper who became one of the boldest voices for voting rights this country has ever heard, she proved that courage is contagious. Let's carry that courage with us this election season and honor her legacy at the ballot box.
