The Dickensian world of publishing. Until the royalties on this book reach £30 I will not be paid them. Since the book came out in 1992 and my last share of royalties was 59p, it is unlikely this will ever happen. Where will it go in the end? – at Hexham, England

Really, really excited to receive a test copy of the #ACESupported COAL FACE book of @martintype's film photography & my verbatim poetry! It's incredible to see our participants' stories in print & know that @RedhillsDurham will be publishing it after a few design tweaks...

Very emotional after finishing what I'm calling the 'Soul Edit' of my flapping novel yesterday. 71,000 words of dialect edited in 100s of longhand pages, but I can't measure the ways in which I feel I'm stepping forward in my craft thanks to @bookishelise's wonderful guidance...

I promised you two long reads from The QT archives this weekend (I trust you have already enjoyed the tale from @InsideOutCJ that he discovered when he was in New Zealand). Now I bring you words from that gifted storyteller Michael Chaplin who makes an epic journey through time and space to celebrate perhaps the greatest gift made to the world by the North East— the railways. This was first published in edition 6 of our weekly news magazine. Please share, comment, like etc if you would like us to be able to bring you more of these quality stories. <!--td {border: 1px solid #cccccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->theqt.online/ticket-to-ride/

It's brilliant to see you enjoying the archive - I loved seeing Chaplin's thought processes evolve in relation to certain novels. Great to see your SC collection too. Mine's almost identical!

Interesting. @MichaelChaplin2 can you do the same for your father? His books are so varied, I would genuinely be interested to know whether he had a favourite?

Bitter sweet transfer for Elliot A, hope he returns to the club at some point. Reminded of his family connections to the Toon via Geoff Allen, as referenced in @MichaelChaplin2’s great book about being a Toon fan and embracing Tyneside.

And finally... Close the curtains, imagine there’s a roaring gale outside, pour yourself a stiff drink — rum for preference — and follow @MichaelChaplin2's tales of epic voyages of Tyne sailors in search of the most fabulous cargo — and it isn’t gold… theqt.online/all-at-sea-for-…

Coming later today... QT21: We've got a bumper collection of election wishes this week while @paulhtfp ponders electoral reform and @ArlenPettitt points out that inflation may be down but there's a squeeze still to come for families still on fixed-rate mortgage deals. Prepare to have your timbers shivered by @MichaelChaplin2's latest masterclass in storytelling and @DavidJWhetstone discovers the latest attractions at Beamish. @SimonTheQT reports on the wider impact poverty has on our primary schools, and there's stories of redemption and honour from @samwonfor and @Hendrover.
