The wild thing is that it could have been worse for Republicans. There were some races Democrats didn’t contest that, in this climate, would have been susceptible to flip.
Illinois House Republicans who are losing: Sanalitro McLaughlin Ugaste Keicher Schweizer And the AP has already called retiring Rep. Amy Grant’s seat for Dem Erica Bray-Parker. Would be +6 for HDems if it holds.

How it feels watching every other state have interesting elections…

Officially the first (out) gay man in the US Senate. Nowhere near the most important thing about this election, but still wow what a historic moment.

Tbh this was the least enthusiastic I’ve ever been about voting in local elections. Just an extremely disappointing, old crop of lack-luster candidates in Illinois. Jealous of literally every other state!

NIMBY group backed by NIMBY aldermen wonder why there’s not enough housing in Logan Square.

Logan Square, a neighborhood of 70k people led by Ald. Quezada, is more unaffordable than ever because he only wants to build ‘affordable housing’ Yet since 2022 has only built 47 units total. Building housing doesn’t cause gentrification, it prevents it

i’m far from the first to comment on this, but i think the reason the deaths of Patrick Stewart, Dolly Parton, etc hit so hard is that we’re losing the last generation of people who became genuinely famous in a monoculture. studio execs have worked tirelessly to nix the “Hollywood star,” and social media has driven us all into silos. we’re losing the last few folks who bring us all together.

Glad we have out priorities in order going into Tuesday's election! Does anyone in the media want to ask Gov. Pritzker if his housing bill has any momentum or just the taxpayer- funded billionaire-owner's stadium subsidy bill?

BTW: Chicago’s median home sale price reached $389,900 in September, up 8.3% from a year earlier – twice the rate of inflation.

New: Illinois state data released today shows over half of CPS students aren't proficient in reading, math and 2-in-5 are chronically absent. If this infuriates you, here's Illinois Policy PAC endorsements for school board candidates on Tuesday's ballot: @illinoispolicy

If I were a betting man I’d say El-Sayed squeaks out a 1-2% victory in Michigan and Talarico loses by about that margin and leftists draw the complete opposite conclusions of what that actually means about running a “good” left-wing campaign.

I’ll post my actually Senate predictions soon, but my “IRL vs. Online” brain is telling me voter turnout will not reflect actual American sentiment / vibes and that will likely save some vulnerable Republicans in what would otherwise be massacre year for them. 🤷‍♂️ but we shall see!

We lost one of the greats of stage and screen today. And, in my book, a tremendous friend and man. I learned so much from him. I will miss you, Patrick Stewart, all of my days. @mang0ld

Frustrating how blue cities exert so much energy on performative environmental regulations with ambiguous benefits, while enforcing land-use policies that are clearly destructive to nature. NYC still mandates parking near plenty of subway stations!
hot take: bird glass is terrible and NYC now requiring it in all new buildings is a travesty
