The World Economic Forum’s “cyber pandemic” may be entering its opening stages.
Five European countries were just hit by cyberattacks that disrupted supermarket refrigerators and freezers—just weeks after Bill Gates said “over the next year, we are going to have a lot of NEGATIVE SURPRISES” from AI cyberattacks.
Hackers manipulated refrigeration settings to as high as 122°F, causing widespread food spoilage.
This may explain why governments around the world recently urged citizens to prepare several days’ worth of food and emergency supplies.
🚨 BREAKING: Hackers are hitting supermarket freezers in 5 countries at the same time.
This is what Covid looked like in week 1. A few countries. Small numbers. Nobody called it a crisis.
1/ Sweden: stores say hackers hit their cooling overnight. One says fridges and freezers were set to 50°C, and the food spoiled. ICA Kvantum stores in Sjöbo and Tomelilla were hit, plus at least 6 Coop stores. Sjöbo stayed closed through the morning, threw out all affected goods and apologized. ICA says it is working to restore normal operations. In Sankt Olof a store manager said "everything is ruined." Sweden's National Cybersecurity Centre is working on several incidents.
2/ Estonia: the CEO of cooling firm Kitman Coldtech says several clients were targeted and a large chain's freezer was raised to +50°C. It was found and addressed in about 10 minutes, no major damage.
3/ Ireland: SuperValu pulled ALL fresh and frozen food from 13 stores. Its owner, Musgrave, confirmed a "cybersecurity incident" on a "specific model" of fridge.
4/ Luxembourg: Ahold Delhaize says an "IT incident" hit fridges and freezers at dozens of its supermarkets across Luxembourg and Belgium.
5/ Belgium: more than 40 Delhaize, at least 15 Carrefour and around 5 Spar stores were hit. Cold storage climbed to 15°C. Aisles were closed off and large amounts of stock were destroyed. A notice at one Proxy Delhaize said its systems had "fallen victim to hacking."
Now zoom out.
A freezer normally sits at -18°C. In Estonia, hackers reportedly got in through older controllers. In France, the controller maker said many devices were obsolete or ran outdated firmware. Raise the temperature overnight and the food rots. "You can't unspoil food," one professor said.
It did not start today. 3 weeks ago hackers raised freezers at more than 350 sites in France to as high as 50°C. There were fires. Intermarché's CEO put the cost at "tens of millions of euros nationwide in a single day." Sources suspect Russian involvement there. No group has claimed it. That same day an analyst said Spain, Portugal, Poland, Germany and Belgium were affected too.
Covid emptied the shelves. Nobody is calling this a crisis yet. But the Financial Times already puts the ruined food at millions of euros.
Officials say the Pentagon is treating late-August freezer failures on US military bases as a suspected hack. At least 6 base stores were hit. Army investigators are working with French law enforcement.

🚨 A mental health nurse who possessed 182 indecent images of children, including babies, has avoided immediate prison after being handed a suspended sentence.
Kirsty Robins, 46, from Norwich, admitted nine offences after police discovered the material on her Samsung phone.
The images depicted children ranging from babies to 14-year-olds. 81 were Category A, the most serious classification, involving the sexual abuse and torture of children.
Investigators also uncovered disturbing online conversations in which Robins discussed child abuse, indecent behaviour around youngsters and sexual activity involving animals.
Despite the nature of the material, Norwich Magistrates’ Court sentenced her to just 12 months in prison, suspended for two years.
She was also ordered to undergo probation supervision and mental health treatment, made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
Robins had worked as a mental health nurse and previously held a ward matron position caring for people with dementia at Norfolk and Suffolk NHS.
Her defence told the court that she had lost her job and her relationship had broken down as a result of her offending.
No immediate prison sentence for someone who possessed 81 Category A images of child sexual abuse.

In 2013, a farm cat named Della in Ireland did something that surprised even animal experts.
Shortly after giving birth to three kittens, she discovered three newly hatched ducklings and decided to adopt them as her own.
Her owners initially feared she might eat them.
But instead, she carried them into her nest, cuddled with them, and even allowed them to nurse alongside her kittens.
And the sweetest part?
As the ducklings grew into fully grown ducks, eventually becoming much bigger than their adoptive mother, they reportedly remained close to her.
It’s a beautiful reminder that sometimes, a mother’s love can cross even the most unexpected boundaries.

Thanks to the comments here, I just learned the full story. Ruben was left behind in a closed private zoo in Armenia, where he spent over 5 years forgotten in a concrete cell without proper food or care. Unfortunately, no one went to prison for this abuse because of weak local laws at the time. ADI managed to step in and rescue him in 2023. This is why exposing this cruelty matters so much—because accountability is still far too rare.
Such a heartbreaking story. Well done for making his last years happy ones. It’s time to close zoos and leave wild animals in their own environment. They’re enslaved animals to amuse brainless humans.
