Elon Musk says there's no AI demand issue and explains why SpaceX rents its compute on short-term contracts: AI compute is worth more per watt every year, renewals are coming in at higher prices, and the market is a โ€œcheese shopโ€ with no chips left โ€œOur belief is that the value of compute per watt will increase over time, not decrease. And the reason for that, I think it should be obvious to people really, is that as you improve the AI software, as the models get better and better, theyโ€™re able to, you get more useful intelligence per watt. And the value of that compute is proportionate to the useful intelligence per watt. And thatโ€™s why you see things like even old computers like H100s renting for more than they rented when they were new.โ€ โ€œAnd I think thatโ€™s likely to continue. I think weโ€™re going to face a shortage of superintelligence compute. And that shortage is going to remain for a long time. So, I think the smart move is to do short-term contracts and to essentially place the bet on useful intelligence per watt increasing rapidly, which obviously is done, so thatโ€™s whatโ€™s happened so far.โ€ โ€œAnd also if you look at, say, how are our short-term contracts renewing? Are they renewing at higher dollars per watt or lower? And we see them renewing at higher dollars per watt, not lower dollars per watt. We are also frankly hounded relentlessly by every hyperscaler and by dozens of smaller companies to rent more of our compute. So we could rent out our compute several times over if we said yes to everyone. Thatโ€™s just the situation here.โ€ โ€œThatโ€™s why I posted that sort of video meme of the Monty Python cheese shop sketch where the guy goes into a cheese shop to get some cheese and they actually have no cheese. And so he goes like, what about this kind of cheese? What about that kind of cheese? And they really just donโ€™t have any cheese.โ€ โ€œSo weโ€™ve actually tried to offload some of our inference compute to other cloud providers so that we can use more compute for training. And we get the cheese shop sketch. You know, theyโ€™ll say, like, well, weโ€™ll ask them about what about some, you know, GB300s? Nope, donโ€™t have any of those. What about, you know, some GB200s? Nope, donโ€™t have any of those. What about some TPUs? Nope. What about some Trainiums? Nope. What about some, okay, how about some H100s? And like, well, we might have some overseas somewhere and then theyโ€™ll check and come back and say, nope, we donโ€™t have that either. So itโ€™s like ridiculous.โ€ โ€œYeah. So I donโ€™t think weโ€™re going to have a demand issue here. And like, itโ€™s not impossible. Iโ€™m not saying this will happen. Itโ€™s not impossible that we will have a six-month payback period for compute next year.โ€
Elon Musk says Starlink connectivity revenue has โ€œa clear path to several hundred billion dollars,โ€ and promises a separate presentation on the plan โ€œYeah, I think we probably should do a longer presentation on the game plan for Starlink connectivity and why we think it will ultimately be a business that generates several hundred billion dollars in revenue a year." "Because you are missing some of the pieces that we know about internally. I can say we do see a clear path to several hundred billion dollars a year in connectivity revenue." "But I think we should probably describe that in more detail in a forum thatโ€™s not limited to a few minutes at an earnings call.โ€

Well said. Gotta keep your eye on the right ball.
TLDR; we will probably never get another ARR number from Anthropic, which is healthy. Should force the market to move away from extreme focus on Anthropic/OpenAI ARR numbers to hyperscale growth rates, which are a much better metric for AI at this point given they capture Muse, Grok, Gemini and Open-Source. Anthropic FCF positive in Q3 and reaccelerating in October on Opus 5.5 per third party data. Roadshow in several weeks will happen after this has been widely confirmed. Unit economics much better than expected given positive FCF with 75% of their compute going to training. All per public reporting. ย  OpenAI continuing to grow at the same pace per Sarah Friar interview after they took share vs. Anthropic in Q3. Means the sum of Anthropic/OpenAI growth is accelerating from the Q3 pace. OpenAI probably hits FCF positive in the next few months. ย  Open-source growing much faster than either Anthropic or OpenAI. Modal tripled since May and is 15x YoY per yesterdayโ€™s announcement. Open-source tokens generate more revenue and profit for the hyperscalers/neoclouds than frontier tokens. *Every* open source inference cloud I am aware of is growing faster both sequentially and YoY than either Anthropic or OpenAI. And their combined compute spend is becoming material. ย  Third party data pointing to hyperscalers continuing to accelerate in Q3. All report in the next two weeks. Acceleration should continue in Q4 and Q1 as installed base of compute slowly reprices higher closer to spot and new capacity comes online at higher prices. Continued acceleration in hyperscalers should help address external funding concerns. ย  10 year yield down in a straight line over the last 24 hours. ย  Some risk of escalation in Iran next few days, but earnings and mid-terms probably outweigh taking an ultra long-term view and looking out 30 days. ย  Biggest risk imo remains cyber and OpenAI/Anthropic dominating the model layer. Fragmentation, competition and lower margins at the model layer are good for everyone else in the ecosystem and for America. Slower for longer is much better than an overbuild and an actual bubble.

This was my first impression as well. Just not as smartly formulated. $MU $SKHY $DRAM
Watching people freak out over CXMT's 4Fยฒ and claim that CXMT has caught up with Western memory technology is honestly laughable. CXMT has hit the limits of DUV scaling. What it is trying to do is move from 6Fยฒ to 4Fยฒ at the relatively relaxed 13 to 14nm node so it can extend the life of DUV. It is not jumping straight to 4Fยฒ to leapfrog Western memory makers that use EUV. People have the cause and effect backwards. Samsung and SK hynix are also not holding off on 4Fยฒ because they are stupid. If they wanted to mass produce 4Fยฒ right now, they actually could. The only reason they don't is that the yields aren't there. I really can't make sense of this selloff sparked by CXMT. ๐Ÿคก
