Is this scalable? I believe so. Here’s why. It is undeniable that there are some schools making decisions about curriculum, teaching methods and behaviour that are not only ensuring pupils acquire deep knowledge and skills, but also develop strong character. 1/

Strongly, strongly agree that getting more pupils to a functional level of English/Maths is scalable but certainly not easy. The first step has to be the difficult step of believing that every child can and should leave school with a 4+ in English and Maths.
I think that as a society we need a clearer debate about the standards we think most students are capable of achieving. I personally think most students can achieve the standard represented by grade 4 in maths & English. I am not pretending it will be easy, and I am not trying to be utopian, but I do think it is possible. Others will disagree, but because it's bit impolite to say "I don't think some kids can ever get to a grade 4", they come up with euphemisms and it's difficult to have a proper discussion. But I think we need to be honest and to have the debate! If it really is not possible for a third of kids to reach grade 4 English & maths then that does have big implications for our system! substack.nomoremarking.com/p…

Clever people, around the English speaking world tend to know very little history. It’s worrying in the UK but is actually even worse elsewhere. It’s really shocked me - truly realising this in the last year or so. I’ve come to see ignorance of history as a root cause of poor ideas informing policy.
“We’re entering Disenlightenment where we de-learn all the stuff that seemed so important to us in the 18th century: knowledge, scientific truths, democratic debate. No room for doubt, only the recital of certainties.” Rod Liddle on fine form:- thetimes.com/article/93c60ed…

Really excited for our debut duo act! I am really lucky to work alongside @michaeldoron and have great curricular chats every day. Looking forward to sharing some thoughts on building meaningful links between English and History!
I’m really excited to present with my wonderful colleague @MrPTse at @researchEDBrum. We’ll discuss why planning “cross-curricular links” is often a bit rubbish – but we’ll also share how we found unexpected connections between our beautiful subjects and what we did with them.

Neena Sharma is quite simply the best English teacher I've had the *privilege* to work with. Below video is a must watch for ALL English teachers.
Never mind her students, Neena Sharma had me absolutely captivated in her lesson on the @Steplab_co documentary!

Am v proud of our feedback culture at @ArkSoaneAcademy The average 'feedback' email I got this term looks like: 'Enjoyed your lesson. Really great to see X. Oh and have you thought about doing Y?' Often a painless 1 min read - always useful and immediately actionable!
On average, teachers at @ArkSoaneAcademy observed 40+ lessons & were given feedback on 40+ lessons since September! This truly low stakes, high frequency feedback culture is key to rapid staff development. Want to join us? We're recruiting across subjects! arksoane.org/jobs/vacancies
