#Kargil At the Kargil War Memorial, we stood in silence. Names etched in stone. Winds cold at 10,500 ft. And a debt we can never repay. Then we reached the Samadhi of *Capt. Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra — 17 Garhwal Rifles — Khumtai, Assam.* Recalled from leave just 12 days after his engagement, he led his men to Kala Pathar, Batalik. Surrounded, asked to surrender, he charged — killed two enemies, saved his men, and fell just 150 yards from the enemy post on June 30, 1999. My eyes filled up. I am from Khumtai, and here in Kargil, one of our own son of the soil sleeps for Bharat. We became emotional. And at the same moment, our chest swelled with pride.
