Nick Gibb tells how DfE advisor Sam Freedman made a bet with a colleague about how many academies they could make. He won. But more recently Freedman has acknowledged: 'the policy hasnt been as transformative as hoped… schools that didnt become academies perform roughly as well'

Coincidence? While Govt consults on exclusions & suspensions, @tombennett71 appears determined to reinforce the very behaviour first narrative that risks overlooking disability related distress & unmet SEND needs. Is this really the thinking shaping national behaviour policy?

Yet again Bennett is wrong legally. Thus is precisely why I've forced rescission of unlawful exclusions, why families win disability discrimination cases against schos in the First Tier Tribunal & is clearly detailed in s15. Don't listen to this charlatan: teapawt.net/tombennett71/status/21…

To clarify, punishing/sanctioning/excluding a child for something "arising as a result of" disability falls under s15 EA2010 & is legally covered by precedent set in the Upper Tribunal in 2018 in "C&C", where Rowley J described such discrimination as "repugnant".

🧵Our journey through the education system the last 25yrs has changed how I view not just the system itself but also the disparity in how each individual involved throughout that time has treated my children & how each setting has identified/met needs has told its own story. 1/

Absolutely agree with you 🙌 it also shows & teaches compassion & understanding of needs when approached from a celebrating progress & inclusion perspective doesn’t it

Attendance awards can quietly punish kids who are sick or need extra support. Celebrating progress and inclusion helps every child feel they belong 🤍

Exactly this!!! Christ my youngest had several days off because school had no loo roll and so he could not go to the toilet! This resulted in a hospital trip with him impacted & constipated! @GLFSchools 😳🫣it’s not right! It’s 2026 you should not be rewarded for good health!

I would have never had one back in the days and I was an "academic" student. But life is life. Sickness, family issues, deaths, etc.

Attendance awards have no place in an inclusive school. They are discriminatory, unfair, harmful and promote a culture of exclusion.

SO sick of this twisted narrative 😩😡

SEND funding plan risks ‘penalising’ inclusive schools “Raising the threshold without providing genuinely additional & clearly identifiable funding risks increasing schools’ responsibilities without… the capacity or resources to meet them” 🤔🫣

Our education authority has told teachers & students to "wear more clothes" as a result of increased heating bills.
The same education authority who won't hold schools accountable for their rigid uniform policies that see children sanctioned for wearing an unbranded scarf.

Mums battle for SEND school places “they don't answer your phone calls anymore, they don't answer your emails anymore". This is far from unusual and always unacceptable. Council behaviour is the SEND reform that’s actually needed. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm0q…
