FYI - I am on the other blue app at the same handle and will try and post more. But I will not be leaving Twitter. For over 14 years, I shared thoughts, musings, and extensive threads that I've been told have impacted many. I don't want to lose them. They'll be here.

So proud to have moderated this important UN General Assembly Side Event last week - the war on drugs is a war on poverty. As long as we criminalize people, we will lock them into a cycle of harm without truly helping to uplift them and improve their material conditions.
Replying to @UNDPHIVHealth
At #UNGA event "Beyond Criminalization" we heard key lessons from affected communities & health and drug policy experts from Mexico, Switzerland & more. Thanks to @YouthRISE for highlighting the impact on young people, and to @HelenClarkNZ for her inspiring words. @OpenSociety

“Drug wars tend to foster and encourage really undemocratic political forms when it comes to thinking about these issues that other countries have treated as a public health issue.”

Local police are desperate to get you to think they aren't ICE, while they brutalize demonstrators and criminalize the poor. Don't believe the #Copaganda.

The researchers found that 87% of people who inject drugs in Baltimore would support programs providing access to regulated drugs, in order to protect participants from the adulterated street supply. Read my latest for @Filtermag_org 🔽 filtermag.org/baltimore-drug…

the most under-appreciated local government success over the past three years? it’s actually Baltimore imo -murders down 60% -major pro-housing reforms including ending parking mandates, legalizing single-stair buildings, and permitting denser housing
Today, I signed a package of bills to make housing in Baltimore more abundant and affordable. These bills will help folks buy a home and grow wealth, counter decades of disinvestment, and make sure both long-time and new residents feel the benefits of Baltimore's Renaissance.

Police contact of any kind is not innocuous: most police killings start with officers responding to a suspected non-violent situation or a case where no crime has been reported.

I actually really love the idea of over-the-counter naltrexone for alcohol use. It helps people to gradually reduce and moderate their drinking on their own terms. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…
