This is what's infuriating about Yglesias. He advocates moral compromises for the sake of electoral victories but even when shown that the compromises are not politically helpful, he still insists you should make them. Because it's actually just ideology posing as pragmatism.

New: We found cops who kept using Flock to spy on women after they left the force. One used it for five years after retirement, spying on his wife during a custody battle. Another ran searches while he was suspended (and later fired) after killing a 15-year-old boy. 🧵

I thought we needed police to protect women. Oh well.
The NYPD's Culture of Debauchery: Protect the Predators. Punish the Women Who Complain. One captain allegedly wanted her as a lover. Another promised protection, then exploited her. And the NYPD officer who wanted to do her job became the target. The Sanders Firm, P.C., has filed a Summons with Verified Complaint on behalf of Police Officer Maria A. Delacruz against the City of New York, Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, and five other NYPD personnel. **WARNING: The Summons with Verified Complaint contains explicit adult images and a link to a sexually explicit adult video. Reader discretion is advised.** According to the lawsuit, then-Captain Amanjeet S. Sandhu cultivated Delacruz's trust by protecting her from workplace hostility and accommodating her personal responsibilities. Then he allegedly declared his love for her, demanded that she view him as a lover rather than a supervisor, made sexual comments about her Dominican body, attempted to kiss her, questioned her about masturbation, and sent unsolicited pornographic material. She rejected his advances. What followed? Sexually degrading rumors, workplace humiliation, and a confrontation inside the women's locker room, where another officer allegedly accused Delacruz of "fucking the captain." When Delacruz confronted then-Inspector Steven M. Mauriello about the rumors, his alleged response was: "I'm not the only one saying that. Everyone here thinks that." Apparently, the subordinate officer's supposed sex life was everybody's business. The commanding officer's conduct? Another matter entirely. Delacruz transferred to another command after Captain Tamecca Greene promised protection. Instead, Greene allegedly ordered her to perform personal errands, cover mandatory supervisory meetings, and repeatedly scan Greene's official NYPD identification card to record Greene as present for duty. Why was a commanding officer directing a subordinate to record the captain's attendance? When Delacruz's transfer became final, Greene allegedly withdrew promised accommodations, disrupted her work schedule, subjected her to disciplinary pressure, and interfered with her efforts to leave the command. This is a college-educated police officer, mother, and newly commissioned United States Army Second Lieutenant—not somebody's lover, personal servant, or convenient target for sexual gossip. The lawsuit alleges a supervisory culture in which rank shields misconduct while the women who object bear the consequences. The NYPD cannot demand integrity from rank-and-file officers while allegedly operating under a different standard for its executives. Eight causes of action under the NYSHRL and NYCHRL seek accountability for discrimination, sexual harassment, hostile work environment, and retaliation. The allegations have not yet been adjudicated. Two weeks ago, the LAPD union honored Daryl Gates by holding the “Daryl Gates Memorial Golf Tournament”. The money raised went into the union accounts that have dispersed $5.6M to reelect Bass. Karen Bass needs to REJECT the union’s endorsement and RETURN the donations.

We prevent violence by directly listening to those who experience it. For years, the Crisis Management System (CMS) has successfully reduced crime across our city by empowering trusted community leaders to mediate conflict and lower tensions before violence can occur. That's why our administration's Office of Community Safety is expanding CMS to Bushwick, Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood through a $4.8 million investment. The absence of crime is only possible with the presence of support. That's our administration's vision for public safety.

Share this and tell folks to study it. This is a common tactic employed by the reactionary forces of the state to try and discredit protest movements everywhere.
