NETFUND at COP17 Armenia: Advancing Global Biodiversity Action The Chief Executive Officer, NETFUND, is participating in the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), taking place in Yerevan, Armenia, from 19 to 30 October 2026. COP17 brings together governments, environmental institutions, scientists, development partners and other stakeholders to accelerate global action towards halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030. The conference marks the first global review of progress in implementing the Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), providing an opportunity to assess achievements, identify implementation gaps and strengthen efforts to protect and restore nature. Key issues under discussion include biodiversity financing, ecosystem restoration, implementation of national biodiversity strategies, monitoring and accountability, and the fair sharing of benefits arising from genetic resources. These priorities underscore the need to translate international commitments into practical, adequately financed actions that protect ecosystems and sustain livelihoods. On the sidelines of the conference, the Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Festus Ng’eno, met with the Kenyan delegation to review progress in negotiations, address emerging issues and align Kenya’s engagement with national priorities. The PS emphasised the importance of a coordinated, evidence based and action oriented approach to implementing the KMGBF, with particular focus on adequate biodiversity financing, effective implementation of Kenya’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), ecosystem restoration and equitable benefit sharing from genetic resources. He further called on the delegation to maintain a unified national position and strengthen collaboration through the Africa Group to advance shared priorities. For NETFUND, participation in COP17 provides an opportunity to engage with the evolving global biodiversity agenda, exchange knowledge and explore partnerships and resource mobilisation approaches relevant to environmental conservation and sustainable development in Kenya. As countries work towards the 2030 biodiversity targets, the focus remains on turning global commitments into measurable action that protects nature, strengthens resilience and improves community livelihoods. #COP17Armenia #NETFUND #KMGBF #NBSAP #BiodiversityAction #TakingActionForNature
