🔥 BIG BOX WORKSHOP IN PHOENIX! 🚒
We're kicking off a two-day Blue Card Big Box Workshop today at the Alan V. Brunacini Command Training Center in Phoenix, Arizona!
We're excited to have Shane Ray, President of the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA), joining us as we take a deep dive into the unique challenges of managing fires in large commercial buildings, warehouses, and distribution centers.
Not long ago, a 150,000-square-foot big box store was considered enormous. Today, fulfillment centers and warehouses routinely exceed 1 MILLION square feet!
These buildings are different. Their fire protection systems, life safety profiles, critical factors, and tactical considerations demand a different approach to incident command.
Over the next two days, we'll focus on:
🚒 Understanding fire sprinkler and protection systems
🚒 Identifying Big Box critical factors
🚒 Strategic decision-making and risk management
🚒 Division/Sector operations and tactical supervision
🚒 Applying what we've learned through realistic Big Box command simulations
The goal isn't simply to fight a bigger fire. It's to understand the building, work with its fire protection systems, and make better strategic and tactical decisions.
A big thank you to Shane Ray and the NFSA for their continued partnership and commitment to firefighter safety and education!

At approximately 7:47 p.m., South Adams County Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Super 8 near I-76 and 88th Avenue.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from a hotel room, with the fire contained to a single room. The building’s fire sprinkler system activated, helping limit the spread of the fire. Firefighters worked to control the situation and prevent further extension.
We thank our assisting agencies, Adams County Fire Rescue, Thornton Fire Department, and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, for their support and coordination.
This incident is associated with a separate law enforcement matter. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is leading that investigation and will handle inquiries related to that incident.

When everyday convenience becomes a hazard, simple habits save lives. 🔥🔌As advocates who have experienced the devastating, lifelong impact of #fire, we know that many home fires are entirely preventable. That’s why, for Fire Prevention Week, we are joining Sparky® and the @NFPA to share a critical message: Safe charging is a superpower!
Our homes are filled with #lithiumionbatteries! If charged incorrectly, they can pose a serious fire risk.
Make safe charging your everyday superpower with these essential habits:➡️ Hard Surfaces Only➡️ Stick to Certified Gear➡️ Don’t Overcharge➡️ Inspect Regularly-Let’s use our "common voices" to speak up, share these tips, and protect the people we love. Every safe habit we build together prevents another tragedy before it can start.👉 Visit fpw.org to explore more life-saving resources this #FirePreventionWeek!

🔋 Charge into safety this #FirePreventionWeek. #LithiumIonBatteries power everything from smartphones and laptops to e-bikes and tools. But when damaged, overheated, or charged incorrectly, they can trigger rapid, dangerous fires. Protect your home and family with these essential charging habits:🔹 Stick to original equipment: Always use manufacturer-certified chargers and cords. Avoid cheap, uncertified replacements. 🔹 Charge on hard surfaces: Keep devices off beds, couches, or under pillows. Soft materials trap heat and block ventilation. 🔹 Unplug once full: Do not leave devices plugged in indefinitely or charging unattended overnight. 🔹 Keep large items outside: Charge e-bikes, e-scooters, and heavy power tools outdoors and away from exit doors. 🔹 Watch for warning signs: If a battery swells, smells strange, leaks, or becomes excessively hot, stop using it immediately. Together, we can prevent fires before they start.
