@NafdacAgency, can Nigeria make every regulated food batch traceable to its producer, quality records and buyers? I propose a pilot connecting accredited local laboratories, verified batch records and consumer checks. Here is how it could work—and where the safeguards matter. 🧵 Start with production clusters. Support modular laboratories and sample collection centres near manufacturers. Complex tests can go to regional reference laboratories. Choose locations by production volume, risk and demand, with dependable power, equipment and staffing. Private laboratories could participate under NAFDAC oversight, with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation covering the specific tests they perform. Require competent staff, calibrated equipment, proficiency testing and regular reassessment. Publish each laboratory’s approved scope. Every batch should have a documented release decision. NAFDAC should define the required evidence by product risk: relevant tests, manufacturing controls and storage requirements. A laboratory report addresses the sample and tests performed. It cannot promise absolute safety.

🇳🇬 GOOD NEWS: 24 STATES APPROVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT FOR STATE POLICE A proposed constitutional amendment to establish a dual policing system in Nigeria has secured approval from 24 State Houses of Assembly, meeting the required two-thirds threshold. The milestone brings Nigeria closer to a major change in its policing structure, with the amendment still subject to the remaining constitutional steps. 🚔🇳🇬

A valid QR code can still be copied. Use package serial numbers where justified, controlled label issuance, tamper evidence and checks against authorised production quantities. Repeated scans in distant locations should trigger investigation—not an automatic accusation. Consumers should be able to check through an official website or SMS service. Show the manufacturer, product, batch, expiry and release or recall status. A successful scan confirms a database record. It must not be presented as proof that copied packaging is genuine. Bring wholesalers and distributors into the system. Require traceable supplier invoices and batch records, with custody tracking proportionate to risk. An illegal producer may avoid registration entirely. Distribution checks and surprise market sampling help reach that hidden supply. Audit the laboratories too. Use blind proficiency samples, independent retesting, equipment records and conflict-of-interest controls. Investigate suspicious approval patterns. If producers and laboratories collude, a digital portal could otherwise turn false results into convincing paperwork.

Make compliance affordable and predictable. Publish fees and realistic turnaround times. Use pooled sample transport and targeted support for small producers. Allow qualified manufacturers’ own laboratories to contribute under defined oversight. No automatic approval because a deadline passes. Enforcement must follow evidence. Hold suspect batches, investigate, recall unsafe products and prosecute deliberate adulteration or falsified results. Failed tests must be reported promptly. Accountability should cover culpable producers, laboratories and officials, with due process. NAFDAC already has food quality requirements and a pharmaceutical traceability programme. A food pilot can build on that experience. Publish testing costs, turnaround times, audit failures and recall speed. The goal: easier compliance for honest producers and faster action against unsafe products.

What does Iwajowa contribute to Nigeria’s economy? We examined its farming, mineral resources and public finances. One finding: federal schedules list ₦5.376bn in net FAAC allocations for January–August 2026. But the bigger story is what Iwajowa can build

Dates matter when tracking FAAC. January revenue is generally shared in February. Our ₦5.376bn calculation uses DISBURSEMENT months, covering December 2025–July 2026 revenue. It is neither a full-year 2026 total nor the value of every federal project located in Iwajowa. The council’s published figures reveal another important distinction. For January–June 2024, it reported: • FAAC: ₦1.490bn • Independent revenue: ₦23.113m FAAC supplied approximately 98.47% of reported recurrent revenue. Source: budget.oyostate.gov.ng/wp-co…

Mining must deliver community benefits too. Section 116 of Nigeria’s mining law requires specified leaseholders to conclude community development agreements before development activity. Residents should be able to track agreed jobs, training and infrastructure. Source: faolex.fao.org/docs/pdf/nig9… Our position: Iwajowa has a credible production base worth developing. The next test is measurable: usable roads, more produce processed locally, functioning services and responsible mining. Follow NGProject Ledger as we connect public allocations to projects—and projects to people’s lives.
