This meme is well earned…
I’ve received multiple messages and texts saying essentially “my head coach refuses to give us time to sprint. He says just practice faster”….🤦🏻♂️
“Super fast” game speeds that happen in a high school practice average about 14-16 MPH tops. That’s FLYING around the field. Every once in a while (particularly in a game) players get the ball or chase the ball in a straight line for 30+ yards. If your fast guys do that they hit 20-22 MPH. Those speeds are extremely rare on a practice field…but does happen in games. And EVERY time it does? It’s a GAME breaking play one way or another. So refusing to recognize and train that? Is plain neglectful coaching. Period.
Now I’m no NASCAR guy but imagine if during practice runs nobody ever got up above 160. Ever. Is the car prepared to perform at 200+ MPH??

Sprint fast to be fast!
Why you must build in high velocity sprints into your practice schedule…5 linebackers today…19-20.34 MPH max velo. Average peak speed in first practice in shoulder pads…14.37 MPH.
5 varsity receivers….all 20+ guys. Average peak today? 16.05.
7 varsity DB…4 20+ rest in 19’s….average peak today? 16.13 MPH.
Practice isn’t allowing enough space/time or opportunity to open up much. What happens when we get to scrimmage or game and the extra MPH is demanded?? Cramps…soft tissue stuff…
This is consistent with season long averages over last 3 years at YCHS as well.

The Math of Mercy
Paul is on a roll in Romans 8. He's adding up all the things that can separate you from the love of God in Jesus Christ.
And the total? Nothing, zilch, zero. Not death, not life, not anything in all this vast creation where good and evil coexist.
This is the math of mercy. God's nothing.
But still we continue the list.
•What about my deepest, darkest, most shameful act?
•What about the years I spat in heaven's face?
•What about the terrible things I've done to other people?
•What about all the ways I've led others into iniquity?
•What about this, what about that?
Write your list. Use up every drop of ink, cover every sheet of paper, go on and on and on with the innumerable screw-ups in your life.
When you've finally finished that exhaustive list of all the things that you think can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus, add them all up. Take that number and multiply it times God's zero.
All your sins x God's zero = zero.
This is the math of mercy. God's nothing. Your everything in Jesus Christ, who is bigger than your sin, more loving than your hate, more faithful than your infidelity.

“Hey how come I’m not getting faster?”
- Doesn’t rest between sprints
- Doesn’t sprint with max effort
- Does slow conditioning 5x a week
- Doesn’t take a day off
- Considers gassers speed training
- Sprints every single day
- Doesn’t do resisted sprints
It’s often simple
