Thank you, @FLOTUS, for your leadership in advancing women’s health. Women deserve clear answers about conditions that uniquely or disproportionately affect them. Today, we are changing how our government pursues those answers. The new Women’s Health Division at @NIH will tackle these questions with gold-standard science, accelerate research, and turn discoveries into better prevention, treatments, and care for women across America.
.@FLOTUS reveals the @FirstLadyOffice’s 5 pillars for women’s health innovation: 1️⃣ Find cures for diseases affecting women in a unique way 2️⃣ Use superintelligence (SI) to enhance our understanding of female biology and speed up medical discoveries 3️⃣ Accelerate the process of guiding promising therapies from laboratories to female patients while maintaining strict safety standards 4️⃣ Ensure that medical breakthroughs are accessible and affordable to women regardless of their financial circumstances 5️⃣ Replace generations of silence with open conversation, education, and compassion

If your Author Accepted Manuscript was supported by @NIH funding, it must be posted publicly to PMC without an embargo. There's no cost and it does not require buying expensive open access plans. Take steps to upload your Author Accepted Manuscript here: nihms.nih.gov/login/?next=/s…
.@JAMAInternalMed recently published a thoughtful piece on public access calling for NIH to assert its position regarding compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy. NIH has the right to make the Author Accepted Manuscript, which has been supported by taxpayers, public in PubMed Central at time of publication; a right which is independent from any publisher agreement. This is a free path to compliance for authors, helping us ensure rapid public access to NIH-supported research results.

Women make up half our population, yet too many questions about their health remain unanswered. President Trump’s Executive Order marks an exciting opportunity to strengthen NIH’s investment in women’s health research and advance the Administration’s commitment to improving women’s health throughout the lifespan. Under the order, we look forward to establishing a new Women’s Health Division. Working closely with NIH’s Office of Research on Women’s Health, the division will strengthen the Federal Government’s ability to: • coordinate research on women’s health conditions, including replication studies; • address gaps in scientific understanding; and • accelerate the translation of discoveries into better health outcomes.
Today, @POTUS, joined by @FLOTUS, signed an executive order directing HHS to establish a new Women’s Health Division at @NIH to strengthen research, accelerate medical breakthroughs, and improve health outcomes for women and girls. The order also establishes a White House Women’s Health Task Force, co-chaired by @SecKennedy and @SusieWiles47, to coordinate federal efforts to advance women’s health at every stage of life—from childhood and adolescence to reproductive health, menopause, and healthy aging.

What can help people manage pain after surgery while reducing opioid use? Research at NIH’s National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) is helping answer that question. NCCIH Director Dr. Wendy Weber shared findings from the NOHARM study with me, which included more than 68,000 participants. The study found that combining clinical support with non-drug approaches reduced opioid use after surgery without compromising pain control. Thank you to Dr. Weber and the NCCIH team for sharing the research behind this progress.

This week, I joined @NIHDirector_Jay, @DrOzCMS, and @DrSchwartzCDC at NIH to open a historic clinic dedicated to studying and caring for patients experiencing health problems following vaccination. We must listen to patients and families who report vaccine injuries—not dismiss or gaslight them. President Trump and I are building a health system that takes them seriously, follows the evidence, and uses what we learn to make vaccines safer. This is how we earn back trust in our public health institutions.

It’s not every day you get to hold a geoduck, the world’s largest burrowing clam! I joined NIH colleagues Dr. Karina Walters, Dr. Nora Volkow, Dr. Kathy Etz, and Dr. Anna Mazzuco for a visit to the Lummi Nation, where we learned firsthand about the community’s successes, challenges, services, and research, including a tour of their shellfish hatchery. We visited several facilities that showcase Lummi Nation’s tremendous health services programs. While visiting the Northwest Indian College, we learned about their NIH supported research to identify strength-based supports for Opioid Use Disorder recovery. I’m grateful to Tribal Chairman Anthony Hillaire and the Lummi Nation for the warm welcome and for sharing their knowledge and priorities with us. Visits like this help NIH listen, learn, and strengthen our relationships with Tribal communities.

🔬Traditional treatments for multiple sclerosis (MS) can help mitigate a patient’s symptoms or keep them from returning. Now, new NIH-funded research suggests that a modified drug historically used for treating HIV and Hepatitis B could potentially reverse the disease’s effects. Learn more ➡️ bit.ly/4rwr37x

A subset of people diagnosed with severe psychiatric illnesses may actually have immune-mediated brain diseases. Properly diagnosing and effectively treating these patients is an important area of discovery in the mental health space. I had a deeply interesting and informative time visiting researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health yesterday, who are working on cutting-edge approaches to that issue and many more.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed. Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives taken on September 11, 2001, and honor the first responders who ran toward danger to save others. In the days and weeks that followed, HHS joined the response, including the @usphscc and personnel from the National Disaster Medical System and the National Pharmaceutical Stockpile, which would later become important parts of @ASPRgov. We honor all who served, all who sacrificed, and all who still carry the wounds of that day. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
